I’ve been using this as my Bible for a little over a week now. I am following it almost precisely. Do I love all the recipes? No. Do I love some of them? Yes. Have they all been easy and doable? Yes. This does take a commitment, but it’s worth it. I’ve also been doing the exercises provided and have been taking 1.5 mile walks on my “rest” days. I have not had this much energy or felt this good in YEARS. I lost 3.8lbs after the first week.
It's important to know, up front, that author Kelli Shallal is a Register Dietitian (among other qualifications). She's written other cookbooks (that I will look for) and her recipes and health advice have appeared in various periodicals.
I am very impressed by this book. It contains everything you need for a healthy, month long weight loss plan. This book really offers a healthy approach to losing weight. It includes exercise routines complete with workout charts so you can keep track of your exercise. For the food portion of the book, each section has a shopping list (wow, I love that!) and recipes.
I am not able to eat all of the suggested foods because I try to follow a plant-based diet (the book includes meat recipes) and I cannot tolerate artificial sweeteners (a few of the recipes use stevia). HOWEVER, I still believe this book deserves 5 stars. There's a lot of good information here that will help you transform your body in just one month's time.
Okay, I found a Chopped Greek Rainbow Salad that sounded like food to me -- edamame, bell pepper, chickpeas, feta, with a lemon and oil dressing. But "Not Your Average BLT" (tempeh, avocado oil mayonnaise, maple syrup, and coconut aminos) or Power Protein Smoothie (cauliflower, zucchini, chocolate protein powder, banana) , Lentil Tahiini Burgers, Green Goddess Tofu Bowls, Healthy Breakfast Sandwich (avocado, tomato, bean sprouts), not! Even if I could conceive of some of the combinations in this book, I'd have to go to the grocery store at least every three days to have fresh ingredients on hand. In this Time of COVID, I go for groceries once every three months. If you're already fond of cauliflower rice and liquid aminos, then the recipes, meal plans, and exercise plans in this book will serve you well and you'll take the trouble to prepare the meals. In 30 days you'll be a better you. It's a well-done book, it just isn't for me.
I really like the Part One of Kelli Shallal's "The 30-Day Healthy Weight Loss Plan and Cookbook: 100 Easy Recipes and Workouts for a Balanced Life." It makes sense for me and the advice is helpful. Part Two is the weeks and recipes and that's where I stumbled. There are some recipes that I could jump into and others that I pushed back on. I mean, I like cauliflower as cauliflower. I'm not as keen on cauliflower on rice. I'm also not a fan of almond butter or almond milk. So there are adjustments that I'd have to make. The shopping is also on the pricey side so there is that to consider as well while also considering my household's tastes as well. That said, for the committed, this is worth a look. Again, I really like Part One and the advice in it can work for planning a healthier lifestyle.

I am looking for healthier recipes overall this year. This one we have tried several so far and they have been a huge hit with the majority in the family. I like that I can just use the recopies in this one or follow the plan that is easily laid out. Since ordering this book I was recently diagnosed with something that I am going to be taking baby steps while using this one and if I end up losing some weight in the long run will be great benefit but I wanted this one more for the recipes. So far I am finding I am turning to this cookbook much more than I expected I would. Planning out meals ahead of time is a huge time saver and just knowing it will be something good is a huge bonus.
Normally weight loss books are full of recipes most people will never try to make, or full of ingredients most people would rather not eat. This is neither, we've had several of the recipes and they are really good. I'm the only one losing weight, but between my husband having only one kidney and just trying to be healthier, everyone's diets have changed. This is a good book for all of that, nothing too salty, nothing heavy, and it would be a good cookbook for summer when it's super hot and everything feels like it would be too much.
I wasn't too sure when I ordered this book but is has been really helpful in workout suggestions and food recipes. I have learned how to balance both parts and will continue to use the book for the exercise tips that it gives. I have implemented some of the food suggestions as well, tweaking them to my liking and it is helping to curb my sugar cravings (my weakness!). Definitely try his book out if you are at point where you are not seeing your weight move.
