Love this and kids love it. Reads through well with some very basic facts to distinguish each planet for them. Both 3 and 5 year old were very interested to sit and listen a couple time through.
Only gripe is that it mentions both feet and temperature in farenheit. Kids won't care, but I did. The book is sold in Australia it should have metric measurements.

Fluff
4.0 out of 5 stars
Disappointing writing in this book compared to other Chris Ferrie books.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 August 2019Verified Purchase
Chris Ferrie has created the brilliant "... for Babies" series. We've bought loads of these for ourselves and as presents for others. We've recommended them to plenty of people as well. On the basis of those books, we bought this - a world of difference (no pun intended).
In the "... for babies" series his short punchy writing style is a brilliant accompaniment to the pictures. Here he tries to use a different writing style... and it's really poor. He's trying to write in verse but it seems like he has no sense of rhyme or rhythm.
"8 little planets with the Sun at the center.
Does each one wish it were a little bit better" - Apart from the complete fail on the rhyme, I don't even know what he's trying to say here. It's like he couldn't think of anything better and just thought "Oh this'll do".
The book is beautifully colourful and physically attractive. Although, on some pages, there is so much going on, that the central theme of the page (the planet in question) kind of gets lost. The idea of the book is great, but the sort of fun that many authors have, using rhyme and tempo in language that is to be read aloud to kids, is missing here. If someone else had provided the writing to support Chris Ferrie's imaginative ideas, this could have been a great book.
Second reviewer feedback(!) - Our son has complete free reign over which books he wants read to him and (unlike other Chris Ferrie books) this one hardly ever gets picked.
UPDATE:
I've updated our score on this as our son picks this one quite regularly now. As above, it is a beautiful little book.... in its concept, layout and presentation (it just has incredibly clunky writing!)

Doesn't rhyme
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 November 2018Verified Purchase
8 Little Planets is a lovely book
Although Chris Ferrie should really take a look
-at a rhyming dictionary because his tale
Doesn't scan or rhyme properly.
It looks beautiful and I'm sure my daughter will love it when she's a bit bigger but, even with an Australian accent, "better" doesn't rhyme with "centre".

Educational without being too much for young kids. Great book.

Good introduction book for young kids. My 3 year old is really into space at the minute so we bought him this book to introduce him to the planets. It's quite educational and talks about the moons and speed they go round the sun without being information overload. It also rhymes and is a nice little book.

Writing is weak and messaging is just strange
Reviewed in Canada on 5 September 2019Verified Purchase
When we first saw this book, we jumped to buy it because we love space-themed stuff! But the minute we read it with our baby we were super let down and left cringing at the bad writing and poor grammar. The rhyming is bad too and the message of the book is just weird.
"8 little planets, going 'round the sun. Could these little planets be having much fun? 8 little planets with the sun at the centre, does each one wish it were a little bit better?"
"Pale blue earth should be filled with strife, it must be hard being home to all this life."
Isn't this strange? Like no, the planets are fine just as they are. It should be celebrating them for being awesome. Not striving to be better or different, or saying how hard it is to be them.
Gets two stars for the cute illustrations, bright colours and the fact that our baby likes putting his hand in the hole and turning the pages.
