I have been searching for a dashcam for quite some time. I have heard of several close friends or family members recently getting into accidents and i have seen others get into accidents where the blame was put onto the wrong person because of a lack of proof. I have been wanting one to protect myself, my property and my loved ones from theft and unnecessary insurance increases. I looked up several different dash cams and read hundreds of reviews. I was impressed with the APEMAN Dashcam before I got it. The install was very easy, i had previously purchased the hardwire kit, Micro SD and a mount specific to my vehicle. I installed the dash cam (front and rear) in about 30 minutes total, running the wires behind the headliner and to the rear of the passenger cabin. After reviewing the video, all I can say is wow!! The quality is clear on this! You can read the roadsigns, license plates, etc. I will be purchasing for the rest of my vehicles for sure. Maybe even get a second one for the current vehicle and use both front cams as front and rear and the back cams as side views to be protected 360°.
While this camera would save me in case of this accident, resolution is not high enough to read the license plate. My return window for this camera is closed, so I cannot return it anymore. I will be definitely looking for something else.
Update: customer service reached back to me. I provided them full video and expressed that this product does not meet my expectations.
Even when return window for my purchase expired, they did refunded me for my purchase.
Maybe I had a bad luck with my piece, maybe in specific situations camera does not perform as well as I expected. But all what matters is customer service and how they handle customer concerns. For me, they did more then they should. I am not happy with the product, but very happy with customer service. They deserve 5 starts IMO.
Due to a recent accident, We have found the real need of having a good, quality dashcam in the vehicle. One from the front, AND one from the rear. It was very important to our situation, and don’t find out that it would have been important to yours too. Anyways, this one fits the bill!
It was an easy setup. There is picture I instructions (general) in the manual, but theres lots of YouTube videos on the subject. We installed the dashcam on the front windshield, on the passenger’s side, behind the rearview mirror. The passenger can see it clearly in motion, but its mostly blocked from the drivers view, although we can still look over to make sure it is on. There are two cords coming from it. One goes to the electrical plug. We ran that on the driver’s side. We pushed it under the headliner, down the trim next to the windshield and door, and on the bottom of the dashboard, where the fuse blocks are. The cords are completely hidden! It looks professional! Well, the second cord goes to the rear camera. We ran that on the headliner, from door to door and to the camera middle top of the rear windshield. Also, completely hidden from view! Both cords were adequately long without being excessive. We just tucked the extra under where we could.
Ths camera comes on automatically as cut on the car, and stops a little after we cut off the car. It just records over and over again in small segments. If something it decides is signifigant happens, the file goes under another folder and is not written over. The screen is nice when used as a quick reference for viewing. The video itself has good resolution though. We are very happy with it! Hopefully, we will never need it , but at least we will have it just in case.
Over the past several years I have owned 3 different brands of dashcams. The only ones that are still alive are Apeman. All the rest died an early death. After I bought my first Apeman (C450) I was so impressed that I bought 2 more for my 3 vehicles. They all worked as advertised and had very good pictures. Now I have also purchased this C550. The picture quality is similar to the C450. I pointed both front and rear lenses of the C550 to the front so I could compare them. I could tell that the main camera had a better picture than the remote one. I guess that this is because the resolution is greater in the main camera. The record time with both cameras running on a 32GB card is 2.5 hours and 3.7 hours with only the main camera. As I recall, the front camera is 1080P and the rear is 720P. I will also add that this is the first camera that has a battery that lasts more than a few seconds. It lasted over 15 minutes. I could unhook it from the power plug and actually work with the unit and set it up and format the card. The cables are plenty long and make it easy to install in even the biggest vehicles. Installation time was under 1/2 hour and looks professional with all the wires hidden. Overall I'm totally satisfied with my purchase and recommend this camera. I feel that I got a bargain
I ordered this camera after using the previous model for over a year. For the price of this camera, the quality is great and will provide clear video in case of an incident. I really like this dashcam compared to the older model because of the rear camera. It is now on an adjustable mount so you can get the right angle, and the resolution is higher. Additionally, the front camera has a larger and clearer screen which makes it easier to navigate the menus. Once again Apeman has created a great product!
Updated 1/29/2020: So this is the third dash cam of this model that I have purchased from Apeman. All three cameras have performed flawlessly so far. The front camera is 1080 and the rear 720. I've only used the front cameras so far, as they've been mounted in trucks, but I like the option of having the rear as well, should it get mounted in a different vehicle. This latest model is slightly thinner, which is great! However, the buttons are a little harder to read now because the paint color is darker. Definitely not a make or break thing, just an observation. One upgrade I still would like to see, is the ability to film in 60fps. With the rate at which the camera is moving, it would create a smoother video, and make it easier to read license plates if the need arose. Other than that, I'm quite happy with these dash cams, and if I should happen to need a fourth....... I'll go with Apeman!
My original review was just a one star as the product did not work when I received it. Basically the internal formatting process ruined every SD card I tried to use. Well, after leaving the review I was contacted by the company who's representatives were quite anxious to make it right. They shipped me a new camera free of charge and stayed in contact with me until I installed the camera and made sure it worked. Well, it did and now I am pleased with the outcome. It is rare to see such dedicated customer service. Thank you.
Bought this as a replacement for on older Rexing V1 dashcam. Performs admirably. The rear cam is a nice touch. Had to sticky it up to the rear windshield. Split view on the dashcam is a nice touch ! So far, no complaints ! Will update in a couple of months.
On a different note, there was a card in the package offering a free gps unit if a five star review is given .. Thats simply not right. So you may want to take the reviews in here with a grain of salt.
I originally had the Apeman C420 dash cam and enjoyed the quality of the dash cam. However, due to the mount using a suction cup, I was unable to place it next to the rear view mirror due to the sun dimpling. For me to get the camera into that area, I needed to buy a separate window mount. (I don't remember the price but I think it was 10 dollars). Even after screwing the mount, it kept loosening up over time.
Now this dashcam, has the same quality build, but has even more features. First off, the mount comes with double sided sticky tape, allowing me to hide it among the dimpling of the rear view mirror. Because the camera is at the end, the entire body is hidden with only part of the actual camera/lens sticking thru. If you look at the photos in the review, the camera is a little longer then half a bill and slightly wider then one as well. The camera angle is adjusted by turning the side knobs as it clicks into place.
The front facing camera also comes with attachments for the rear view and GPS. One of the positives of the front facing camera is the WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) which shows the a huge range contrast between light and dark. The C420 had a Halo effect when driving between dark and oncoming headlights or street lights and would switch between a somewhat normal camera and night vision (ups the apateur). On this model, you can switch it off but it changes alot faster on this. Another positive is the box came with 2 addition double sided sticky tapes. The front camera supports the micro SD card and I'm using a 64gb with no problem. The front camera also records at 1080p and I believe it looks like 30fps which is more then enough to get the job done.
The rear view camera records at 720p and again, looks like 30fps, more then enough if someone rearends you. It comes with either two screws or a tape mount (the mount you see is the wrong one due to user error sd I found the actual exact size mount after installing but it gets the job done). The camera is slightly smaller then a quarter all around. The cable is 20 feet long which should be enough for most compact or full size sedans.
Again, this is a great product for having the safety and ease of mind incase you get into an accident. Did I mention it also has motion or shock mode? If you choose, if someone walks in front or if someone bumps into your car, it will record - just another great feature to have for the price.
Nice little unit. Amazon one day shipping ensured I got the unit quickly to get installed right away. It only took about 30 minutes to install in a 2015 Audi Q3.
They don't include a seam tool so if you don't have one I highly recommend getting one to pull the edge of the header to hide the cables. The cables otherwise hide nicely away along the header and into the corner where the A beam cover is. I was able to hide it completely with the help of a little tool I recommend having around. The cable then lays nicely between the rest of the rubber seal down the side and as yoi can see I ran the cable along the seam on the frame next to the passenger seat and under the floor mat.
The bonus is that the power cable is long enough to go into the rear 9v power socket. Thus adding a usb port that is already built into the power adapter. Bonus!
Since my car is essentially a hatchback, the rear camera is much more difficult to maneuver and would be impossible to attach to the rear glass without a lot of cable exposed due to the hatch. One could attach the camera with screws to the head liner or simply leave enough cable slack for the harch opening and closing. So in the end i ended up not using the rear camera. I now sort of wish I got the wifi c580 version with just the fron camera but no matter, the unit comes off easy enough with its quick release.
I give it 4 out of 5 stars on the first day. Fairly simple to install with a couple useful tools to slightly pull the liner. A tool that wasn't included and installing the rear camera on a hatchback is difficult unless you attach the camera inside and not on the glass.
I will update uf come across any issues, will see if motion detection works well and for how long. Built in battery life is very short... lasting about to 5 to 10 minutes. Will see if this improves.
So happy with the unit... be aware if you have a hatchback, the rear view camera install may need it to be atteched in the head liner at the rear of the car. I may use it for something else possibly, don't know what yet, maybe side view... if I can't figure out a good spot for it for the rear.
