To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Applications are very responsive and snappy, RAID management is very easy and rock solid. Video output is exactly what I needed for (plugin my 60 inch plasma) it`s now my first choice to view my IT and cycling channels on YouTube. I would like to see support for newest version of Chrome, I`m sure it will come.
Very expensive unit, but for me it is well worth it
Good general purpose NAS. However, I bought this specifically to use as a NVR for a few IP cameras. If this is your purpose for the Asustor, then look elsewhere. The information about the Asustor Surveillance Center app looks impressive. However, the software is terrible. It doesn't work at all in Chrome on a Mac. After finding a browser that it will work on, the interface is slow and incredibly unreliable. Even apps on my phone can reliably connect to my cameras, but the Asustor often fails to display the video properly or at all. Recorded video playback is also clunky and unreliable. I had high hopes for this, but I'll probably just end up using a NUC or other computer as my NVR and then doing backups to the Asustor. It also doesn't support any camera feeds over 1080p, so I've had to set my cameras to lower resolution than they are capable of so they work with Surveillance Center.

UPDATE 01-14-2015 - The product is now ready - and quite nice. The digital output is working and the apps/updates are stable. It's a nice improvement over the AS602T I also have - both in capacity (running four 4 TB in a RAID 10) and in the audio/video capabilities with digital audio output and 4K HDMI. After the initial hiccup, I've received excellent support from Asustor and they are back on my list of recommended vendors once again.
EARLIER - This product is NOT ready! I bought this for several reasons - one of which was the digital audio output. Guess what - it doesn't work because there is no app support for it. I couldn't believe it so I wrote them and they steered me towards a beta which kind of worked - and promised the final version would be out this week. In updating another app, I saw that no, that audio app wasn't released but there was an update for the beta in the control panel - so I installed the update. BUT that crashed the whole system and now the NAS says it's uninitialized. I notified support who first told me they could reinitialize my system without wiping out all my data - now they tell me they can't. So my data has only been on this for a few weeks and they destroyed it all - nothing I or anyone else did. What a disappointment since I've used their A602 for years without a problem. Maybe this product will mature, but who knows when - and it certainly isn't ready now. I don't think I'll ever buy an Asus or Asustor product again.
I purchased this a few years back and it's been great overall, too many bugs... Recently as of 8/5/19 I discovered a bug where the NAS defaults some of the settings on its own. Example: if you set both NICs with the same IP and create link aggregation for the purpose of active/backup or load balancing, it will default its password and config both NIC's to DHCP auto config.
Running with three 4TB WD Red drives on my home network and serves as my main file server and running Plex Media Server. Setup was easy but it took a while to build the RAID 5 array. The file transfers seem to max out a single gigabit connection. The Haswell i3 transcodes full bitrate blu-ray rips through Plex with no issues or buffering. Great little home server if you need a powerful processor but not cheap.
Update: 6/24/17 Two and a half years later and still happy with it. Since the original review a fourth 4TB WD Red drive was installed and then all were upgraded to four 10TB Seagate Ironwolf drives. Also, trascoding in Plex gets used more often now due to being away from home more often and have still seen zero hookups. Planning on keeping it until I max out the four 10TB drives.
