There is a measurement ruler in the middle of the scale when assembled for a baby and it is a nice touch to help you track your baby’s length. Additionally the material is very easy to wipe down or sanitize and there’s not really any spaces that would catch any dust build up.
I really like the scale and in my opinion it’s the best on Amazon, mainly for the reason that it has the options to view the weight in kg, lbs AND oz, or just oz (and I know competing scales don’t have the lbs and oz option, leaving you to do the math by yourself). The only thing I didn’t like about the scale is that where you lay the baby to weigh, as your baby grows, you’ll recognize that it’s a little small. I imagine my baby will outgrow it by the time she is 2 months old since it is a bit short. It would have been nice if it could extend longer for more use but it’s still a perfectly good scale and it is pretty close to the length of a typical baby scale at your pediatrician office anyway. Definitely a worthy buy for a concerned breastfeeding mom like myself!
The display for the scale is very easy to read with a blue backlight. It comes in pounds, kilograms, and ounces. I wish that it came in combination weights as well, e.g. pounds and ounces so I didn’t have to convert the units as much. Since I was mostly using this to weigh my newborn to ensure he was eating enough, it worked out since it’s easier to calculate ounces gained using just ounces, but if I were to be taking a naked weight, it would be easier to have the pounds and ounces on the same screen. I also wished that the scale could be slightly more accurate to the tenth decimal point since it only reads half ounces, 1.5, 2, 2.5, etc.
Overall, the simplicity and the multi-use purpose of this scale is great, I just wish it would be more stable for attaching the tray to the scale and also read more accurately to the tenth decimal point.
The main downside to the AccuMed Baby Scale was the length of the tray. The picture provided on the Amazon page makes it seem that the scale is much longer in comparison to the infant (who looks several months old in the picture). The tray is 23 1/2 inches long. My daughter was 19 inches long at birth, which is an average birth length. By the time she hit two months, she was 23 inches, which would be where the tray would top out of being able to measure her. Now at six months old, she is 27 inches, so the tray has no use for measuring her (but it is still helpful in holding her while I get her weight). Now, I know she is in the higher end of the percentile scale for height for her age, but if I had have payed for the scale, I would have been disappointed in only getting 2 months worth of usage of the tray for the price. But, if you have a short baby this might not be an issue.
Overall a good product that I would recommend, and with a lengthened tray would be a great product!
The design is very low-profile, making it fit nicely on our coffee table and providing for easy access for daily use. The tray is also long enough so that his feet don't hang off, an issue I've had with other baby scales.
