From the Back Cover

Selected Poems consists of work chosen by the poet himself from the Collected Poems, published by Penguin in 2004, together with a few new, previously unpublished poems. The complete span of McGough's writing, from the 1960s to the new millennium, is represented.

'Mcgough's trademarks: the craft worn as lightly as the crown, the jokes that are something more, the underlying heartache, the acute sense of the way time slips away' Ian McMillan Poetry Review

'McGough has done for poetry what champagne does for weddings' Time Out

'He is a true original' The Times

'Memorable, fresh and enduring' Sunday Herald

'No detail of daily life, trivial, ridiculous or touching, is unworthy of a sympathetic attention ... honest, enlivening' Alan Brownjohn, Sunday Times

'The patron saint of poetry ... we are lucky indeed to have him' Carol Ann Duffy

My first book of Roger McGough poems. Not my last. I have admired his work for so many years. Fun, funny and thought provoking. Most are great while some are brilliant. Subverting ideas of normality. I recommend you to purchase this for any word lover (and especially for any teacher of English to brighten up their students appreciation of what poetry is and what it does).
