Having used Foscam IP cameras before I thought this Amcrest camera would be as good I was so wrong. Setting this camera up for the average person will be a nightmare compared to the Foscam and many other cameras. Trying to set the camera to send emails is an even bigger nightmare, having Googled this it shows many many people are having the same problem with email setup failing, after getting the email working you need to set some port forwarding settings on your router, after getting it to send a "test" email, it sent out at least 15+ or more, why? So after getting eveything set up and working I set the camera into alarm mode but I received no email alerts, going back to the email setup and asking it to send a test email it was back to "test email failed". Also the next day some of the settings I had setup had changed back to their default settings, so after many more hours trying to get the camera working I decided it was not worth wasting any more of my time trying, I was so disappointed with the camera I returned it for a full refund thanks Amazon. I have to say the picture quality is good and is very wide angle, maybe a little too wide.
Excellent Camera, i like how you can view on Smartphones, iPhone or Android and especially on a Computer from anywhere so you can always keep an eye on everything, plus you can talk through the camera both ways and the sound is good and strong and no interference like the cheaper ones. The picture you get is so clear no pixellating and the colours are like real life, its like a 4k tv, really good. works on Wifi and 3g. Brilliant. Thoroughly Recommend to anyone.
best camera I have purchased well done amcrest. well worth doing firmware update on the camera far better video at night connects very quick worth buying tp wireless extenders if you want to go further if you have a large garden over 100 feet long no lagging on video stream
I've been through several IP cams and this one is by far the best I've used. The software for mobile, the web interface, everything is A1. Highly recommend! The mic works great, the speaker is clear enough. Two way communication is great! This camera has worked well with third party surveillance software that I've tested as well. I'd buy another!
The camera has a lot of options which allow for any custom configuration, and the video quality is superb. It also supports an internal DDNS feature which allows you to use their Amcrest Pro software on your computer/mobile device to view/playback/control the camera (and any others you have) from anywhere - without the need to configure DDNS accounts or forwarding ports on the local router, etc.
This came packed in an incredibly strong box which would protect against the most severe handling by carriers worldwide, and also well boxed by Amazon for the final leg.
The camera is quite attractive and relatively compact, similar to most others of this type, and the quick start guide which gives setup details for the various different ways of viewing (app, desktop, P2P, cloud or web) is quite detailed but is very clear and is written in perfect English, although I admit I peeked at some online review videos before trying to set up the camera.
It took me many attempts to connect to my wi-fi via the Amcrest Pro app, and eventually I had to connect via an Ethernet cable (provided), which was successful after a couple of attempts. After disconnecting the cable the camera was still connected to my wi-fi, and turning off my mobile phone wi-fi connection also left me still able to see via 3G on my Samsung Galaxy S3, so the procedure eventually was totally successful. I admit I am no expert in wi-fi things, but I do not understand why my initial efforts were telling me that I had a 5Mhz connection (which I do not) or incorrect password. Anyway it was worth all the effort in the end, as the visual quality is excellent, as is the pan and tilt capability, and I found it easy to set up to view from a laptop. The adjustable stand which is provided is easy to fit and allows perfect placement and fixture.
There is a vast array of adjustments and controls available to users more experienced than me, but for my purposes of keeping an eye on my cats the main controls and presets are more than enough and give superb performance compared with the last similar camera I had.
Despite my initial difficulties, I highly recommend this item and would buy again if needed.
The item was provided at a discounted price on promise of my giving an honest review.
Got this to replace an older Foscam (now called Amcrest) camera. I chose white because the original black camera was building up a whitish film on it and starting to feel tacky to touch. The shell on this one feels better and I don't think it will have the same issue. So far I have been very impressed with the picture quality. Good daytime colour picture which drops to clear black and white in low light (just external street lighting) giving a usable picture without the need for IR lighting (which just glares back on the old camera which looks out of a window). I didn't use the provided software as I have it managed by Surveillance Station on my Synology NAS which handles the camera and gives full control and doesn't need a PC running full time. The NAS found the camera easily once I selected the make and model and provides full pan and tilt control plus digital zoom and records when an event such as a movement happens. Captured images are very smooth and only get visibly 'noisy' when the daylight starts to fade and it hasn't changed over to B&W yet. Zoomed-in images are visually noisy but that is to be expected as it is digital, not optical, zooming. The only drawback with it being white is that it reflects back off the window in bright direct sunlight, but that was my choice not a fault with the camera.
Bitterly disappointed, I picked this camera because of ease of installation.......spent the whole afternoon setting up, first using wifi set up, it didn't work, even when the phone was screaming at the camera, then used Ethernet set up, seemed ok, except that the app stopped?.. tried again later, no improved , seems that there is no product support for this on Amazon??? I cant even tell if the camera is ok because the set up video mentions that the green light at the back should flash, mine is on all the time. Checked on Amazon, it shows that "This product is not eligible for customer support" WHAT? Tried it next day on ipad, seems that laptop, ipad and tablet all talk to the camera but it is deaf... going to get a refund and try a different make.
Image quality is good but everything else is hard work.
Setup is a pain and it really shouldn't be that hard these days. The software is average and again its painful to understand what happens when you change something and the effect its going to have. I ended up turning off the alerts as no matter how much I turned down the sensitivity I still got alerts to silly thinks like a twig moving in the wind.
When you use some of the Apple products and the shear easy and others from Google these days things like this really need to do better and get a far slicker interface to use them.
Bought in May 2017 and it stopped working after 6 months but until this time I can say that the interface and picture was good.
I contacted support to be told that I’d have to ship it to Texas, USA despite buying via Amazon UK and pay for the return postage myself, PLUS I’d have to pay $30 for the privilege of them honouring their 2 year warranty. Obviously I am not going to do this due to the cost as it makes more financial sense to buy another camera from a reputable company, maybe a Reolink C1 which is 4mp too. So anyone thinking Amcrest, think again.
I have written to their CEO to tell him what I think of their approach to the UK’s Consumer Rights Act 2015 and to date I heard nothing but that does not surprise me. I have also emailed Amazon Customer Service to seek some recompence but heard nothing yet either.
Avoid Amcrest unless you are prepared to accept this level of service if your item goes faulty.
If Amazon sort it out I’ll let you know.
Amcrest ageeed to take it back after much nagging and as a sign of good will said they’d waive the $30 warranty processing fee BUT replaced it directly from their Texan HQ with a US version complete with US power supply. I have emailed but no response.
