This is a technically quirky piece of equipment. If you mount unit viewing a busy street the cam will continually produce multiple records. Battery will only last 1 day. I tried to adjust cam's view to eliminate the street but the mount will only allow 45 degree adjustment. So now I am planning to make a custom wood mount. Like I said quirky. Also I tried to use magnetic charging cable which I found out blocked the cam from working. I was informed the magnetic cable was for indoor charging. So I am led to purchase a solar charge from Carlo. So the sagas continues. The advertised features are very attractive but all are only available with a subscription to arlo at additional cost.
The free trial of 'smart service' might seem like an optional new service Tier to existing customers. Why, because it isn't part of the Arlo 2 coverage - same video and notifications but it has added cosmetic features. Thinking of using the free trial and then going back to 'normal' notifications, NO. This floodlight only works with a monthly subscription. It will no longer let you see video with or without the 'smart' add-on. So, I've got $250 flashlight that has never even stayed on for the advertised duration. Do the Smart thing and pass on this horrible new policy from a once decent provider.
I feel like this product was a complete bait and switch. Part of the descriptions says "no monthly fees or service contract required", I suppose this is true if you want to just use the device as a battery-powered (which depletes quite quickly) flood light. They include a free trial which allows you to record and view the footage as you would on the other motion cameras that they offer. Once the trial ends, you can no longer record footage without the subscription. This was absolutely not clearly stated nor understood when I purchased the product. It's basically useless without the subscription and I refuse to put any more money in Arlo's pocket after they pulled this on me. Stick with their other cameras or find a different supplier.
Huge, and I mean huge, P.O.S. I have spent countless hours adjusting activity zones, playing with the sensitivity and it still randomly records NOTHING for hours on end. I can turn the sensitivity down to 5 and it still records a gnat flying by 50 yards away... at least I think that's what it's recording since I can't see any movement, I mean nothing, on the video. Oh, and it never holds the adjustment - always defaults back to 80 percent the next time I use it (I have to turn it off daily because my inbox blows up with 700 emails showing "motion"). Extremely close to breaking this thing, throwing it in the trash, or using it as a $250 paperweight. Epic fail from Arlo on this one (and I love the rest of their products) - stay far, far away.
I love this camera however the battery last less than a day if there is a nearby street. It will pick up the sound of vehicles even if they are out of the zone. You must turn off the sound. I could not record the intruder's conversation bec I had to turn off sound recording. UGH!! Great camera but no mention of the battery drain. Considering it has to be mounted high and the battery is a problem consider hard wiring it to an outlet if you use sound. It even picks up the sound of wind. I am going to try a solar panel first. Super easy set up.

I've been up and down the ladder multiple times since Feb 27 in order to synch the camera back to the WiFi. Weak signal? I have a signal booster within 10 feet of the camera. There is no excuse for it going offline whenever it feels like it. Tonight, I removed the device from the app, and attempted to re-add it. Now the app can't find the camera! I am DONE, I will never buy another Arlo product and it is getting RETURNED.
Love Arlo. Great product, however returned all 3 because cannot hard wire to existing fixture. It was my mistake, if I would have paid closer attention I would have realized this before I purchased. I have other rechargeable Arlo cameras inside ... love them.... hardwired doorbell ... love it... hopefully they come out with the hard wired edition before I break down and purchase the Ring spotlight camera.
