I decided to get this for my friend’s 9 year old son who had been pleading for a games console. I remember how I went through the whole Asterix catalogue in the summer of 1981 and hoped he might develop that same desire for these fantastic books. After giving him this book I worried that he might not be familiar with the history so would perhaps miss the jokes. However his parents have told me he cannot put it down. He thinks these books are “amazing.”

I have an 8 year old son and a 4 year old daughter. I have read them and given them many books of many types over the years. Their favourite was always the encyclopaedia - they would even fight over it. Then I bought them Asterix. Wow. They have had this as their favourite book ever since Christmas. They never go a day without reading it and it is always begged for at bed time. They LOVE Asterix. I'm quite chuffed as I loved it too as a kid.

Having years ago given away all my once treasured Tintin and Asterix books, I've subsequently re-acquired all the Tintin titles. Now I'm going to do likewise with Asterix. This 1st Omnibus allows me to do so in a pleasingly efficient manner.

And how wonderfully enjoyable this re-acquaintance - after a separation of approx two decades - is proving. The three stories collected here, Asterix The Gaul, Asterix & The Golden Sickle, and Asterix & The Goths still enchant, delight and amuse. They appear to have been somewhat updated: in Asterix The Gaul it looks like the artwork itself has been redrawn, and across all three the translations - names and puns - aren't 100% as I recall them.

But despite the very slight changes, the key thing is, for me, that these remain as delightful to me now as they did when first they charmed me, which is going back over three decades now! I look forward to extending my (re)collection!

I purchased in all three of the Asterix omnibus editions . And i feel very lucky the books where not damaged . Has they where put unwrapped in a way too large box . They had no paper packaging or even a hint of bubble wrap to keep them safe . So Please dispatch departments show a lot more care .
However the books i bought to bring back childhood memories , upon holding in my hand and flicking the pages , did not fail to please , and i look forward to reading them to my grandchild .
I will purchase more , once i know they will arrive safe .

Used to love reading these books at the local library and now I can read them whenever I like. Who doesn't love fight scenes with puns, jokes in latin and the eternal mystery of the purpose of Menhirs? The only drawback is that black characters are drawn in a slightly racist way, similar to very old Disney cartoons. All in all, a crackin read.
