Predecessor to Golgotha, 2009's BABYLON is inspired by biblical visions of The Four Horsemen. The concept album, filled to the brim with bloodthirsty Christian imagery, proudly displays all strengths and trademarks that U.S. metal legends W.A.S.P. have accumulated over decades. Doug Blair's classic riffing is hauntingly effective, whereas iconic front man Blackie Lawless still possesses one of the most unique and emotional set of vocal chords of the metal / hard rock scene! Showcasing Blackie's love for old school rock are covers of Chuck Berry's ‘Promised Land‘ & Deep Purple's ‘Burn‘.

At this point in their career, it would take a lot for W.A.S.P. to release a truly bad record. Some have been more liked than others, but even those albums had some songs worth holding on to. With Dominator, the band created some stable ground to base their new music on and with Babylon the band built upon it with great confidence.
Babylon is a short record at around the forty minute mark. But what you get in that forty minutes is seven great original songs and two covers, one being Deep Purple's Burn and the other Chuck Berry's Promised Land. These covers were recorded as bonus tracks for the previous record but were never used for some particular reason. These songs sit amongst great tracks like Live To Die Another Day, Into The Fire and Seas of Fire and never feel out of place, not for a moment.
The band use the same energetic chord heavy style from the previous record and implement their re-occurring guitarist Doug Blair quite frequently. This guy absolutely wails and he does so on literally every moment he can get. The voice of Blackie Lawless sounds as ageless as it always does. For a man of his age to sound this good is impressive.
The over all tone and style acts a lot like a direct sequel to Dominator. So if you have already heard that record, this one is of equal quality, style and sound. It is a great short record that provides exactly what a band like W.A.S.P. should deliver.

Finally, as Blackie is prone to do, he has included a couple of covers. Having done justice to songs from the likes of THE WHO, ELTON JOHN, and URIAH HEEP, the trend continues with the band's sizzling rendition of DEEP PURPLE's "Burn", which is anything but out of place here. Closing Chuck Berry number "Promised Land" is given Blackie's Elvis treatment and rocks like no other. If you've never cared for W.A.S.P., then "Babylon" might change your mind. It Rocks big Time !
