For ten years Lucy has enjoyed her job poring over rare tomes of literature for the Harvard Library, but she has not enjoyed the demands of her family’s social whorl or her sort-of-engagement to the staid son of her father’s law partner. But when her ten-year relationship implodes, Lucy realizes that the plot of her life is in need of a serious rewrite.
Calling on her aunt Ellen, Lucy hopes that a little fun in the Outer Banks sun—and some confections from her cousin Josie’s bakery—will help clear her head. But her retreat quickly turns into an unexpected opportunity when Aunt Ellen gets her involved in the lighthouse library tucked away on Bodie Island.
Lucy is thrilled to land a librarian job in her favorite place in the world. But when a priceless first edition Jane Austen novel is stolen and the chair of the library board is murdered, Lucy suddenly finds herself ensnared in a real-life mystery—and she’s not so sure there’s going to be a happy ending....

Heading to her aunt and uncle's home in the Outer Banks, where she made many happy childhood memories, Lucy is offered the job of her dreams. The Bodie Island Lighthouse Library has always been a special place for Lucy and now she gets to work there! The library has recently offered to exhibit a complete set of Jane Austen first editions which excites her no end. When the head of the library board is found dead at the introduction ceremony Lucy is horrified but after one of the rare first editions goes missing a short while later she knows has to do something to save her ideal job and even the very library itself.
This is the first in the successful Lighthouse Library mystery series which I have only discovered recently. With everything seen from Lucy’s point of view the storyline is fast moving with a mix of her working and private life to give the reader all the clues needed to solve the murder. There is an engaging group of characters both good and bad who hopefully will be seen again in the next few instalments.
This is a very good start to a series which will soon be nine books strong. My only disappointment is that not all are available on Kindle.

I love cozy mysteries and this one looked like a good set-up: library in a lighthouse, murder, theft, lots of likable supporting characters and a cat. What more can you ask? Well, an intelligent heroine would have been nice.
I did buy the next book. I guess I am glutton for punishment - or a dumb optimist who hopes things might improve. We'll see. If you intend to read it, borrow it from a library. Sadly, I do not have that option.
