When I looked here on Amazon and saw this 6th generation model, I decided to buy it because it had been designed to solve the only two issues I had with my older model. The first was the fact that it was either on or off, no variable speed and often when I am trying to screw into wood without a pre-drilled hole the screw falls off the driver as soon as I press the trigger. This is no longer a problem with this new model. The second was the fact that I regularly changed the direction of the old screwdriver by accident as my fingers rest where the toggle switch is and knock it across inadvertently. Having the toggle switch on the top fixes that problem on the new model.
As I was researching the new model, I came across the drilling attachment and figured that I would give that a try too, as it meant that I would not have to use my cordless drill as well as the screwdriver on some of the jobs. I review both the driver and the drill attachment on the attached video. See the video for what each tool comes supplied with.
I have to say that the screwdriver is a great bit of kit and the variable speed makes it a pure joy to use. I conducted an experiment (on the video) to see how many 2” screws it will drive in and out of pine on a single charge without pre-drilled holes. The answer was over 39 and the first one was a much thicker 3” screw which it would not drive fully home so I reckon it should have been 41 or 42. After I did this I recharged the screwdriver using the supplied power adapter and micro USB cable and it took exactly 3 hours to charge it fully from flat. I then pre-drilled the pine using the drilling attachment, which is a great addition, and the screwdriver dealt with the 3” screw with ease.
With the drilling attachment, you can take everything you need to drill and secure your project in your trouser pocket. I demonstrate this on the video. The screwdriver is exactly what I would expect from Bosch. Well designed, made to a good standard and brilliant at doing what it is designed for. Add a three year guarantee to the deal as well and I think it is worth every penny. I am very pleased that I decided to get this product.
I really liked:
- the sleek box - everything fits perfectly into the compact box. We have a Bosch drill and it’s always a palaver to fit it in.
- the variable speed control and torch is good.
- it feels good in the hand.
I put a flat pack together with it as soon as I got it. It’s so much easier and quicker than using a manual screwdriver.
It was good that there were a few bits included but I would recommend buying some additional ones as I had to call on my old store to do the flat pack (they did not have the required bit).
Reviews for all the different attachments seem good but it would seem only very light usage for those areas.

recently i bought this ixo drill for my house move, as i foresee there will be loads of job that will make use of this screwdriver
it really did all the job very well, first of all, the torque is really good despite of its small size, it could unscrew many tough old screw easily
the rotation speed could be easily control with the trigger, very similar to big combi drill, and from the spec, it should be first introduced in ixo series, which is a big improvement of this mini electric screwdriver series, it is very useful to prevent damage to some wood furniture especially for re-used screw holes
battery performance is really good, with a full charge i can use it for a whole day without recharging it, and there is a battery level indicator that i can ensure it got enough battery for my work, it use micro usb port for charging, so i can easily get it recharge with any usb charger or even power bank
last but not least, the carrying box got load of space to put extra screwdriver bits and some other small tools (if you don’t store the power adapter, cables and manual you will get even more), the box design let you keep one frequently used screwdriver bit attached to the screwdriver, so you don’t have to load it every time for use
highly recommended! quality tool from a famous brand!
This was crucial in influencing my purchase as was the refinement which introduces variable speed regulation to deliver more or less speed (force) as required to drive a given screw. This improvement was important to me as being disabled the single speed 5th Generation IXO is often too powerful (fast) and was inclined to jump off the screw head making it (or the area immediately surrounding the screw) prone to damage as a result.
The new design is sleeker and fits readily in the hand with the trigger well placed for ease of operation. It is also lighter than its predecessor and the further (harder) the trigger is pressed the faster (more forceful) the IXO rotates the screw allowing superior control over this most basic of tasks.
To facilitate ease of use, like its predecessors the 6th Generation IXO incorporates a lamp to illuminate the work area and as noted earlier the accessories released for the earlier versions remain compatible with the 6th Generation so my Torque Setting adapter, Off-set adapter, Right Angle adapter and Drill Adapter will all see further service with this new driver.
As ever with Bosch tools, the package is neatly presented in its own green storage case to match that of the device itself. The case also contains the USB Charger along with the separate micro USB charging lead and a small caddy comprising 10 1/4" Hexagonal Screw Driver bits of various type/size.
One slight disappointment was to learn that a device specific charging station is available as a separate product (1600A01PW2) rather than included with this product which would have offered some added value given the higher purchase price.
I guess my main issue with it is that because of the way it's shaped it can be a bit hard to put enough pressure directly on the screw which causes it to slip out, so you often need to use two hands. And once you've bought a couple of the accessories like the much needed torque and drill adapters you are at the price point of a much better product - the Bosch PSB 1800 Combi Drill, which has not only the variable speed trigger but the torque adapter already built-in.
Conclusion - if you want a cool, handy little tool for minor jobs and tinkering around the home this will suit you very well, especially if you always have USB charging nearby. If you're doing DIY and especially drilling, or even assembling flat pack furniture and just want to make your life easier, you might be better off with the Bosch Combi drill instead. It costs more initially, but it will tear through the jobs this screwdriver struggles with.
