I stream music from my iPhone through the setup and it is stunningly good.
I see some comments with some people not knowing it was on - I had to turn the system off then on again after pairing in the Bose app, so I can only assume that’s what happened there unless defective units. There’s no way you wouldn’t hear the difference, especially when you start cranking up the bass level in app; it can thunder.
My only whinge is that I have other Bose products which use a different Bose app... I wish they bundled them all into one.
It’s well worth it, would thoroughly recommend!
Frustratingly i've been searching for a decent Soundbar for my living room TV for ages. I have a fairly specific TV unit and a fairly perfect space which is 64cm wide for a Soundbar of some description to live in without cluttering up the surfaces.
More about that in my BOSE TV speaker review!
Anyway - regarding this product - I mean yes, BOSE are well known for their beautifully punctuated velvety deep bass tones so it was always going to be a total winner. It really, really, really, really, really adds depth to the sounds that come out of the telly. Deep rumbles in TV Dramas, pumping beautiful bass when listening to music. Complete and utter game changer.
I think, as part of a set this is an amazing addition, however with the set up I have, you'd really need some surround speakers too, to feel immersed in the sound.
Never the less, it is a 1000000% improvement on my 3 year old Samsung 42" TV which was flat and tinny at best being a flatscreen.
The only downside with the set up I have is that (as far as I can tell) you need to have an AUX connecting the Bose TV Speaker to the Bass Module 500 which limits the distance you can place the two from eachother without noticing a trailing wire between them etc.
This means, my Bass 500 unit is currently placed behind my TV (which is on a stand) and although not a nightmare, it is fairly big and bulky (25cm cube). Something to bare in mind!
As far as I can tell, if you have the other (longer width and more expensive) soundbars from BOSE you can link them to the BASS 500 wirelessly and it's only the TV Speaker that requires a wired connection.
I'm making a BIG DEAL out of that point as I wasn't aware until I read a very small sentence on the Bose website. It wasn't really clear in any of the product manuals that came in the boxes.
Overall - Delighted with this. Buy. Buy. Buy!
Getting it setup was extremely easy, it took me ~20mins (including the essential calibration) and shouldn’t be an issue to anyone but the most inexperienced of tech users. I love the fact it connects to all my other Bose speakers via wireless, no cables beyond power are required. I have the Bass 500 situated on a hard wood floor in the corner of my living room - The extra punch it adds to the sound bar is extremely impressive, you can literally feel it in your stomach at 30% (mine is ordinarily set to 60%). Whether you listen to music, watch movies or both this is a required upgrade that you should probably purchase at the same time as the sound bar.
Upon 1st installation, I pumped up the volume and felt somewhat disappointed at the bass response. Maybe my expectations were different to what I got.
I started to wonder if I should have got the next model up to start with.
However, if you look beyond the pure thud of bass, this Subwoofer really does deliver some amazing additions to your TV and Music experience. It's like my Soundbar is now working as it should. In fact, I have actually turned the bass down to about 50% as this works with my setup.
It might be that the speaker within the Sub has loosened up, or I just enjoy it more.
Connection was simple and haven't really used the app since I set it up.
I'd thoroughly recommend this addition to your Bose 500 Soundbar if you have one, just bear with it and enjoy the experience.
I live in a block of flats and am scared of pumping up the volume lest I upset my neighbors ( all four all around)
The bass module rally shines with what it has to play with so to speak
it's down to how the sound is recorded really music you actually notice the difference in bass
Use the Bose music app when in doubt as to whether the bass module is making a difference turn the bass module off and I guarantee you'll notice a difference at low volumes
All in all an absolute beast recommended
