Great quality - as close as a wet shave with razor

I just ditched my subscription for monthly blades by mail and opted for a good quality electric shaver. After much searching of reviews it was clear Braun series 7 was the best on the market but I was put off by the hefty price tag. Saw one on sale in a well known store but found the amazon price beat them by another 30 bucks. They wouldn't match so I went with amazon. Shaver arrived today and the shave is so close it equals my wet razor blades. Very impressed by this product and the build quality is superb.

Bought this to replace my old '5' series Braun, and the shave is pretty similar to that.
I wouldn't say it's significantly better than my old 5-series, but it's a good razor, just like the 5-series was for so long.

I've tried other brands, such as ones with the circular cutters and I hated them. These Braun ones seem to shave better and don't aggravate my skin like those circular ones did.

Easy to clean, but the shaving/cutter head is way more "complicated" than my old series 5 (more moving parts, etc).
I really don't understand what advantage that's supposed to provide (there doesn't seem to be any) but I'll wager it probably makes replacement heads more expensive, unfortunately.

I certainly wouldn't hesitate at buying another one.

closer shave than most

The Braun Series 7 7840s is a middle of the range Braun shaver. It doesn't have any bells and whistles like the more expensive models. The Series 7 does compete well with other brands in this range. I have used a Philips triple rotating heads shaver and I think the Series 7 does a better job. A closer shave at least. You are expected to change the head of the shaver every 2 years or so which does make it a more expensive upkeep.

Shavers seem to depend on your skin type and the length of facial hair.

This shaver takes care of a three-day growth, but if your facial hair is much longer, you will need to clip first, which is what I think you would expect.

I haven't noticed any real difference with the personal settings so not sure whether to class that as more of a gimmick. I love being able to shave in front of a mirror or take it in the shower with me.

That said, this shaver is light and ergonomic and for the price of this shaver in the Braun series, it is very good.

Not noisy, light enough and easy to use, gives a good close shave after a few of days practice.
Travel case is solid and compact, unfortunately the charger will not fit in the travel case, but have been using the shaver daily for over two weeks off the first full charge, on short trips the need for the charger is debatable.

I previously had a series 3 bought for $75 and after 2.5 years the blades lost their sharpness as expected, economically it wasn't worth spending $35 for a new foil and blade set so put the money onto a new unit. This series 7 is much quieter and does a great job, bit more plastic components than my high end Panasonic from years ago made in Japan but it is very light so cant complain. Happy with the price and the shave and also the brand.
