Don't be Fooled by the Antennas

I live in a University dorm where the wifi provided is on a separate network to the University. However, the University's wireless network was literally 100 feet outside my apartment. I have a MacBook Air and thought (incorrectly) that the added antennas would allow me to pick up the signal. It did not, having tried this on both a MacBook Air and a room mates PC. Meanwhile if I were to set foot outside my dorm my MacBook Air could easily pick up the signal.

Therefore, while I have no doubt that this is a great wifi adaptor and solution if your system doesn't already have wifi, I would not recommend going out of your way to buy this if you're hoping to catch wireless signals further afield than what you'd normally expect with Wifi. Ultimately I ended up returning the product given it didn't meet my expectation.

It may relate to my PC but I doubt it! This device could not maintain a connection to my network long enough to transfer a video file (2GB), I found this with a similar Netgear device which I put up with for years. I would add that I have excellent technical skills. I tried EVERY suggested fix to no avail.
After experiencing this problem I fully backed up my PC & did a clean install of Windows 10 as a test. The exact same issued still existed. I need a long range device as this PC is some distance from my router & through many brick walls.
The amazing thing is that when I use a tiny D-Link USB device it works perfectly & can transfer hundreds of GBs without issues. It also has a decent signal & transfers at around 100Mbs. The BosTrend maxed at around 52Mbs.
Why the BosTrend didn't perform as well is a total mystery. I gave up & will stay with the $25 USB D-Link thumb device.
The BosTrend like the Linksys is now thrown in a drawer & will sadly remain unused!!!

It stopped working after 4 months. Felt kind of flimsy from the start, and the design is pretty horrible, where it won’t stand up properly because of the wire and constantly toppled over. I thought it would improve the wifi range in my house — it didn’t. And now, it doesn’t work at all.

I've been disappointed by similar offerings from two of the big players in the industry; Netgear and Asus, so I thought I'd try something a little different this time around.

I've been very impressed with the general performance of this wireless adaptor. Installation was very easy and it hasn't given me any grief since I bought it (unlike the aforementioned competition).

My only complaint would be the blue LED on the device that flashes away like it's nobody's business. If the adapter is in your line of sight it can be really distracting and I can't see any option to change the behaviour of the flashing light. Luckily the extension lead that comes with the adapter gives you a lot of freedom with placement of the adapter.

I use this to connect to my 5Ghz wireless network and it's definitely the best adapter I've ever used for this purpose. Signal strength and speeds are better than what I've seen in the past.

A little FYI for people buying this: the adapter automatically installed by itself when I plugged it in to my Windows 10 PC. I would still recommend downloading the drivers from the official website (instructions provided with the adapter) as I got some strange behaviour out of the device before doing so.

I've moved and have been struggling to get any sort of decent connection on the 3rd floor of the house. I tried a power line adapter and while it helped, still left me with a very slow connection for what i need (10-18 mbps)

I actually ordered this before i did the power line adapters and forgot about it, i didn't have any hope it would work better than them but curiosity got the better of me. Thank god it did!

I plugged it in then downloaded the drivers, loaded up a speed test to confirm to myself it wouldn't work any better and proceeded to stare at the results in disbelief. Somehow this little usb adapters can get full speed from my connection on the 3rd floor from a bt home hub (67 mbps) where as my phone struggles to get get above 3 or even sustain a stable connection.

I was skeptical at first after buying it as I had tried other WiFi cards and adaptors claiming better speeds and range so I plugged it into the USB and downloaded the driver located in the instruction manual and restarted my PC.
After restarting I checked the WiFi signal that was nearly full bars and other adaptors had only got upto 1 bar on 5ghz so their claim to have long range is right and also speed is twice as fast so all I can say is money well spent.

I do suggest to use USB 2.0 to plug into on PC though as 3.0 kept on making WiFi turn on and off so it wasn't very stable even though the insert is blue.

I recently moved my desktop PC to a new room and has no wired internet. So I needed something quick to get it back on the net. I bought this based on other reviewers and it does not disappoint.
It is a 3Ghz/5Ghz dual band, dual antenna wifi module (an actual USB stick) which sits in a nice mount.
There is a blue light which flashes when data is sent and received.
My connection, about 5m and two walls away is about 3/5 in 3 Ghz. But with a wifi 5G extender within 1m I actually get 5/5 stars for reception and a reported 850 Mps. Not quite the 1200 stated, but still more than enought to stream 4K videos on Netflix and Amazon prime.

Superb technical support

It worked like a dream on computer No1 which then proceeded to go wrong so it was the turn of computer No.2 which refused to cooperate. In desperation I decided to contact their support department in China although I was not expecting to hear for a couple of weeks if at all. But I was wrong.

I sent an email at about 9pm. and while I was sleeping that night the people in China were working on my problem and a set of instructions was ready for me the following morning. I still couldn't make it work and got the same level of service again. I sorted it out eventually with the second lot of instructions and found that computer No.2 needed the password for the router and then that worked like a dream.
