Delivery was very fast and without issues. The book has a nice set of recipes and very good advice to save money and time. Specially useful for those lacking time to cook every day. There are options also for when you have more time to cook or prepare something more elaborate (still pretty easy) Very recommendable. Note: the recipes come with USA measures not with metric measures. Think of getting a set of measuring cups.
I'm a single parent of a small child. Sometime last year, a friend who's a mother of eight sent me a link to a recipe on the Budget Bytes blog. I was hooked. Beth tells you how much each recipe is going to cost you, how much each serving will cost in the end, how long it's going to take to cook, and she gives you pictures of every single step of each recipe (on the website, not in the book). She also teaches you how to stock your pantry, how to shop for big-dollar ingredients when they're on sale, and how to use your freezer (hint: fill it with meat bought on sale and homemade stock!).
Budget Bytes completely changed how I shop and cook. I never come home anymore and wonder what we're going to have for dinner. I don't buy pre-packaged anything - it's all made from scratch, for a fraction of the cost.
It has a ton of recipes that AREN'T on the website, and gives shopping or cooking tips appropriate for each one. The only thing I don't like about the cookbook is that the prep/cooking time isn't listed for each recipe. If you think you don't have time to cook, or if you don't know HOW to cook, this cookbook is for you. I'll be buying a dozen or so copies to give as birthday and Xmas gifts this year.
Now I LOVE Beth's blog budget bytes so when I saw the book I bought three for christmas gifts so I could shares the Budget Bytes love. It's an alright book. Got a good intro with pantry and equipment stocking basics and a small section on freezable items which I like. I was just overall a little disappointed because one thing I love about the blog is how she costs things out on her site and she does not do that in the book. Instead she uses a three star rating system which is ok and I suppose it makes since considering future prices changes. Also I wish it had more of the pictures from the site as well as more of my favorite recipes. She has so many great ones that didn't make it in. Overall it's not bad but I would probably only purchase for a beginner cook and highly recommend still going to her blog.
I am a fan of this website and have gotten quite a few recipes from there. I guess I am not a recipe book person like I thought I would be. I personally like the website better because I can search for recipes with ingredients that I already have and my family will eat. But I am very happy for the author in starting her own book. It seems very well put together!
I love the Budget Bytes website. It has many really good every-day recipes, that I can whole heartedly recommend. The fact that all the recipes are budget friendly is a great bonus, but not necessarily the main or only thing that makes me recommend the site.
This book has a decent cross-section of recipes from the website, and sometimes it is just easier to look at a printed copy than to read on the computer. This is especially true while being busy in the kitchen. My only complaint is that the book leaves out several of my favorite recipes. I understand the limitations of having to publish a print edition, but would strongly recommend to use the website in conjunction with the book.
Even with this limitation in mind, I liked the book so much, I bought a copy both for myself and for my niece who is about to leave home to attend university. It is a wonderful resource both for an established cook who needs to think of a nice dinner option for the family each day, and for somebody who is just starting to learn how to cook. Most of the recipe are super beginner-friendly and incidentally teach good practices and techniques.
This book, and her website, have helped me cut down on our grocery bill. Everything we have tried has tasted pretty great, and needed minimal tinkering with the flavors to get it to my liking. I do wish that the calorie information was included.
I discovered her blog a few months ago and love love her recipes. Couldn't wait to get the book. It does not disappoint except for the fact that she does not break down costs per item in her book as she does her blog recipes.
