From the manufacturer

Innovation and Integrity. To Us, Nothing Matters More.
These convictions come first. Innovation means building products that will continue to lead and define the industry in terms of creativity and utility; it means constantly asking ourselves how we can be better. For the past 25 years, we’ve released industry-shifting innovations and worked with some of the most renowned custom and independent knife designers in the world. What really ties it all together though, is our true guiding light.
We are guided by integrity—this is critical to how we’ve chosen to do business. It means interacting with our customers and each other honestly and directly. It also means building products that perform reliably and a brand that behaves consistently, decade after defining decade. We were born in Oregon, and our knives and tools truly reflect the rugged terrain from which they come. That, to us, makes all the difference.

Can it do it's job? That depends on how you define its job. An EDC defensive tool? Yes. An EDC defensive tool that can be carried off as an ordinary key? Fail.

First off, the idea is great and I have seen numerous other key ring holder devices which could also be used as a self-defense tool. The downside of this this particular device is it is much larger than a regular key which would be somewhat difficult to actually carry on your normal size key chain. On the upside, the design of the handle makes it easy to grip and use if needed as a thrusting self-defense weapon. The tip is sharp and is shaped like a Philips screwdriver.
As an emergency self-defense tool I think CRKT key can be an effective weapon; however, you might want to keep in mind, that there are better edged tools (good pocket, neck and fixed blade knives) and other kinds of weapons (Persuader, Kubaton, Yawara sticks) on the market you can get for the same or better price than this particular self-defense tool.

Bottom line, would I recommend this when you are flying and can't take a knife or gun? Would i want this in a location where I can't take a gun or knife? Absolutely.... Can you go wrong for $8?
