2.0 out of 5 stars Board works but the bundle was obviously rushed to market

I'll give the RPi4 board itself 5 stars. With assistance from a couple websites I was able to get Raspbian Buster O/S "with desktop and recommended software" loaded on a Samsung EVO 64GB MicroSD using balenaEtcher. A few more tweaks to the configuration and I had the RPi4 running headless and was able to access the desktop over WiFi using VNC Viewer.

That said, the bundle itself is fair shoddy. I'm docking one star because CanaKit included an outdated Quick-Start Guide (rev 3.2, written for RPi 3 B+), which is confusing and useless and potentially damaging. I'm docking two more stars because nowhere in the bundle does it indicate where to attach the 3 heat sinks. That info isn't on the CanaKit website either. I had to find a user-submitted video on YouTube to figure it out. That's just shameful. I've included a photo of the board with heatsinks attached in case that proves helpful for others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Canakit provides a good deal; the RPi4 8Gb is an impressive SBC

I've noticed a lot of people upset after purchasing this CanaKit...& It seems to be from many newcomers making their leap into the Raspberry Pi Single Board Computer (SBC) experience. For those unfamiliar with SBCs, this might not be the ideal CanaKit to go with...BUT! Generally speaking, CanaKit offers several different Raspberry Pi kits that are fairly well priced.

This Kit—Take care to note, this CanaKit does not include everything required to operate the RPi4—you are getting a Power Supply, the RPi4 board itself, some basic heat sinks, & some instructional literature to help get setup. You will still need to purchase:
– A Micro HDMI to HDMI cable (the RPi4 supports dual displays, so your normal HDMI cable won't work with the RPi4).
— A Micro SD Card–look for one that is UHS–I, UHS Type 1 or 3 (designated by a "U" with a number inside it), & Class 10. 16GB would be sufficient, but you can certainly go up from there! The 32Gb mSD Card & below will be referenced as an "SDHC" & 64Gb & up will be referenced as an "SDXC" – these are just mSD Card Capacity Standardized Designations. Also, one with an adapter card would be ideal
—A Case or even 2.5mm stand-offs to keep it contained or elevated ~1" or so
—A Mouse & Keyboard
—A Monitor or Television with an HDMI port

That is the sufficient list of items to set up the RPi4 (in addition to what's included in this Kit; CanaKit offers kits with all of these items in one otherwise). Those would probably be ideal for anyone just breaking into SBCs for the 1st time. Nonetheless, items can be ordered piecemeal on Amazon with this CanaKit.

Since I already had everything except for the RPi4, a Power Supply, & a micro HDMI adapter, this CanaKit worked out quite nicely. I had been looking for just the board, but the 8Gb model was selling out so fast; CanaKit had some in stock, seeing this Kit and pricing out a power supply (with a switch!), this Kit actually saved me money.

Now, as far as the board is concerned, the 8Gb model is the Raspberry Pi Foundation really trying to broaden appeal for their SBC lineup; and since they are the oft copied "Credit Card Sized Computer," the Foundation really asserted a new standard...and continues still—the board will increase in functionality in the near future.

The ARM chip is a Quad A72-Core, clocked to 1.5GHz & proprietary GPU, clocked to 600MHz (The RPi4 is simple to overclock & I've already done so...those clock speeds are off the top of my head, or, ~approx.). The board will have a Standard Release of the Raspberry Pi Operating System, which is 64-bit native for the RPi4; &! Recently announced, Vulkan 3D drivers will soon be made available for the SBC. The current release is a 32-bit Raspberry Pi OS, but plenty of Linux distributions are available; Windows 10 can be installed on the board.

Also, Android 10 has been compiled as well. That was particularly the selling point for me as it would then be capable of Project xCloud Game Pass Streaming from Microsoft (Xbox Controller Required). And sure enough, it was rather simple to get up and running. That's a major value for the RPi4 – even the 4 Gb model would be more than capable too.

The only complaints I have with the RPi4 is the change to micro HDMI, but it makes sense with two displays (which I probably won't use?). And an SSD or mmc module would have been nice to have a slot on the board.... BUT! That is just nitpicking though. I am really quite amazed by the Rapsberry Pi 4B... (an SSD will work via USB3 adapter).

The RPi4 is a standalone computer if you want it to be. It will run Zoom, Skype, etc... YouTube performance is getting better. Game Emulation is already very good, but will soon be even better. The board is a learning platform at its core, but the dedicated Community is just getting warmed up and in short order, its scope will rapidly expand.

If you're considering getting a Raspberry Pi 4B 8Gb, then I am certainly willing to recommend the board and from CanaKit too.
