This was bought for Astrophotography and general Astronomy uses; e.g. when you need to see what you are doing in the pitch-black without ruining your eyesight! The first press of the button gives you the dimmest light, ideal for this work. The second press gives you the brightest red light; this could be useful if walking along a dark lane at night, facing on-coming traffic; just hold the light down slightly and still so drivers would think yo were a cyclist and be aware of your presence.
It would be preferable if the torch had a 2-way setting switch, rather than having to go through the "brighter" stage before switching off. But, as long as you point the torch away from your telescope and eyes, you should be fine.
It's compact and fits in the palm of the hand, as well as having a oval-clip fixed to the end so that you could clip it on your belt, etc. Overall, nicely made and good value.
