One of the most brilliantly talented and internationally respected saxophonists, Australia's Amy Dickson, will be releasing her next album Catch Me If You Can through ABC Classics. The album features a repertoire that is both close to her personally and a wonderful exploration of the possibilities for classical saxophone, and features works by some of the film world's legendary composers. With classic film scores performed alongside the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, familiar favourites come to life with breathtaking beauty and emotion that perfectly showcase the unmistakable passion and virtuosic technique of Amy's playing.

Of course, it is no longer pejorative to use the term “film music” and the works presented here are forward-looking and nicely contemporary; they are tuneful, lyrical and thoroughly mainstream – one would need to be very limited in musical outlook to find these difficult to like.
Dickson plays alto sax throughout with her controlled classical style; even so, her sound is sweet and flexible throughout. The pieces themselves are at times jazzy or spiced with popular elements – notably the third one on the disc the “Local Hero Concerto”.
A really nice and entertaining album which stands repeated playing – do check out the sound samples above if they are available.
The CD has a total playing time of just over 65 minutes.
