If you ever had the old R.A.T 7 and liked that mouse then the R.A.T 8+ is even better with a small amount of RGB lighting and the new Optical sensor that is in most ways better than the old Laser sensor is the most welcome change with this mouse.

The New R.A.T. 7

My last two mice were both R.A.T. 7 variants, the original and later Contagion.
Both served me well through their years of use, with the Contagion holding up for at least 7 years and now showing a fair bit of wear.
I liked them so much, it was only natural for me to want another after my Contagion's clicker finally started failing.

At first glance, the 8-Plus just a 7 with RGB, cause it basically is. It also has 2.5x the dpi of the Contagion.
Quality wise, it looks to be similar quality but feels only marginally cheaper.
It also comes with only 3 weights instead of 5 and doesn't even include the weight cartridge or accessory case.

In actual use though, it feels very similar to my old Contagion.
On board profiles are definitely a nice change over having to run the app and manually activate my profile every boot, now you only have to launch the profile manager when you want to change something.
But that 16000dpi... I found it completely unusable to the point it was hilarious. I'll stick with 5000 for desktop use with reduced in-game settings.

If you like the old R.A.T. 7, this is as close as you'll get without finding old stock.
We'll see how it holds up, but for now it's certainly a competitor for my favourite mouse.

Not same quality as previous R.A.T. 8 by Mad Catz.

I have the previous R.A.T. 8 model made under the original Mad Catz brand before it went bankrupt and resurrected. The new company is using the same tooling to build the mice, but not all the material is the same. The grippy "soft/satin" surface is far thinner and far less effective on this new mouse. So you will feel your sweat and lose grip on the mouse far sooner than you would previously. I ended up swapping out the right-side grips with one from the old mouse. I may look at replacing the buttons too.

Really unfortunate that you would build a premium mouse, for such a high price, then cheap out on the material used in order to save 5 cents. If you can get your hands on the original R.A.T. 8 model for the same price, do it.

Subjectively, the grip on the old mouse is about 4x higher. Tested by pressing down and rubbing finger back/forth repeatedly.

Horrible design flaw here. Light weight, but it doesn't come with the ring weights like the old mice did to add that extra heaviness to the feel. It's really not ergonomic on the hand. I get crapped up after half hour use while gaming. Speaking of gaming. It's ok, but it can be better. Precision can use a bit of work even after upping the setting. It's made of really cheap plastic and I feel I'm going to break this after a months worth and might have to get a new one. My old Rat MMO 7 lasted me 4 yrs. This is not even the same mouse. Buy it if you're looking for a cheaper version of a so called gaming mouse with limited programmable buttons.

A pretty major issue

Gonna start with the good:
If you're a claw grip user with large hands, this mouse is really good, cause it's large and has an extendable back region, which lets you set it to the length that fits your hand better. It's pretty *eh* for fingertip users, a mix of the weight and the bulk of the mouse, and I don't recommend it for palm users cause extending the back leaves a gap in the middle of the mouse, so it's not relaxing at all.

The meh:
The mouse, after having it for just ~2 weeks, started to get a bit of wiggle in the palm rest, and the scroll wheel started to get a little floaty (little bit of a spacer between pushing down and then actually feeling the resistance of the click). Both are manageable though, not idea but can be worked around.

The bad:
This was why I had to return this mouse. Randomly, the mouse cursor on screen will just freeze (giving the feel that there's a "sticky" feeling to the cursors). It lasts only half a second to a second, but I think all gamers (who are the main market for this mouse) can understand why this is a massive problem. This is a well known problem with the Rat 6+ model, and there are workarounds, but it requires purchasing additional equipment, as it seems to be that the normal USB ports on a computer can't output enough current for the mouse to work properly (Not 100% on this, so don't quote me please).

This mouse is a really nice mouse, in the end the only reason I returned it was because I can't use a mouse that freezes randomly.
