After reading some of the low-star reviews I was leery of making this purchase of a 2 pack of USB cables compatible with my Samsung S5 phone (1 two-foot, 1 six-foot cable). Quite a few reviewers said that the piece inserted into the phone broke off when they tried to remove it. Well, I've been using both of these cables a lot and have had no problem at all. My guess is that others might have tried to insert the cable without taking care that it was going in at a straight angle, or not pulling it straight out when removing it. Because it's a tight fit (...a good thing, because it doesn't fall out!), some, when plugging it in, or removing it too quickly, might try to push it in at a bit of an angle. Take your time attaching it to the phone....and when removing it! It works fine. I was glad I took the chance! This is a good buy.
So these can be used for lots of purposes, but one of the most common is to use a USB 3.0 hard drive (either powered or not) and in my extensive tests I've found the long cable (the 6.6ft) is not reliable to use in this manner. It may work for short periods of time, but it *will* drop out (and then quickly reconnect - this isn't a huge issue unless you are transferring files, when it is then a showstopper as you can't leave the computer but need to keep saying "try again".
I don't think it's these cables per se - it may just be a limitation of USB 3.0 and high speed drives. But I would not trust the 6.6 cable here for data transfer purposes (it corrupted a number of my files during a three day test).
These cables came to me basically folded up lengthwise in bags rather than coiled up, which wasn't a good sign. They didn't seem damaged where the folds occurred, though. One will not maintain a connection with my phone while I'm charging up, and I can't rely on it for data transfers. I'm certain it's a failing connector, which in my experience is all too common for the micro B design. Those connectors don't hold up to small physical impacts such as those that could occur during shipment or mailing. It wouldn't be a bad idea to bubble wrap the cables or put something on that connector to protect it from taking hits. The other cable works just fine--no problems so far. As for build, I've seen these kinds of cables before. The braiding is usually around plastic tubing that holds and protects the wires. It's not a bad design so long as the tubing doesn't get creased or the wires crimped. The braiding helps to prevent that only so much. These were still cheaper than the ones I had been using and replacing regularly, and the 6-foot cable length of the one that works helps me out immensely. I'd consider getting more.
I am incredibly unhappy with this waste of money. The description says this is for Samsung Galaxy Note 5s which is what I have and what I needed the charger cables for. When this arrived-quickly, I must admit-the part that goes into the phone is made for an older generation of Samsung-it doesn't even fit the note 5 AT ALL. DO NOT ORDER THIS IF YOU HAVE A SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE FIVE BECAUSE IT WILL NOT WORK. I would have sent it back, but Amazon has the most stupid return policies and it is never ever worth it. My husband has an old Samsung phone from 2011 that he still uses and it charges that, as well as some of our other electronic devices so it wasn't a waste totally..just not at all what I bought it for. I am editing this because I went back to read the description again, and it definitely is clear about what phones it works for, I just didn't take the time to read it all the way. My husband does like the charging cables; and although I am the one who needed it and it doesn't work for me, the charger cables are still being used daily and with no trouble.
I did speed tests using my USB 3.0 HDD and this cable only delivered USB 2.0 speeds, NOT 3.0 as promised in the product description. I also tested with a 15 foot long USB 3.0 extension cable I have which works flawlessly at USB 3.0 speeds so I know length isn't the issue, its this misbranded cable.
I am so happy with these cables! They’re durable and are long enough that I am able to decorate my entertainment stand the way I want and put my external hard drive completely out of site. I couldn’t be happier!
Both ends fit securely, the housing has been durable for several months now ( no cracking or separation), cable covering still looks new after being thrown into my junky purse, laptop bag, etc. No overheating, remains cool. I was impressed enough to buy other cables for my smartphones. Well made. Charges quickly and consistently.
When the cable that came with my passport stopped working I wanted a cable that was more flexible as my wife uses it all the time takes it everywhere. These fit the bill. They have that quality feel to them that is hard to put into words, but you know it when you see and feel it. These seem to have the same read write speed to a little better than factory cable. I have not ran speed test on them as they do what I expect them to do. We have been using them for about 9 months now and they still look and feel great. My wife is hard on things,so it is a great durability test. Most cheap cables are destroyed by her in weeks.
If nothing else, kudos for their speedy delivery and very speedy & painless customer service, which ultimately refunded my original cost and did not require my returning the defective product. Sadly, things occasionally go wrong in the manufacturing world, and this was one of those occasions. Ultimately it was somehow not a perfect fit and the cables would not properly charge my Galaxy5, which uses a short-lived style USB 3 connector, at the high speed level, just the trickle level of a standard micro USB cable. I will say, I did like the stiff, workable, braided covering of their cables a lot better than the typical plastic covering of the OEM cables, which is ultimately why I had to buy these replacements in the first place! All things considered, I would be more then willing to shop this vendor in the future if my needs dictated!
They worked and are still working fantastically. Cable lengths and end connectors seem durable and strong. Even managed to discover a faulty 3.0 cable that I had been using for years by replacing the "at fault" cable with one of the new JSAUX cables. Two thumbs up for helping me revive the 3.0 capability of an external drive that I had long since believed was corrupted and only able to interface with USB 2.0 connections. Would purchase from this company again in the future.
