Picking up a Manning book I expected it to be a winner. And once again he hits a homerun. The perfect balance between action of suspense made The Choice of Magic a real pleasure to read. I can't wait to see what he does next.

So this novel is a serious fantasy and is extremely well thought out. The magic mechanics are well explained and are brilliant. The characters are alive and unique. The decisions that they make are logical and realistic and even clever. Honestly I couldn't find fault with this novel. Cant wait for the next.
Our MC’s Master: abrasive, sarcastic, doesn’t suffer idiots, extremely powerful, centuries old & distantly related to said idiot MC, who unfortunately dies, way, way to quickly.
MC’s friends & family: solid, loyal, greedy dependable, basically the normal people that help a story move forward.
The book was well written, captivating with a demontrable belivability. Some of the main characters actions were questionable. But overall i loved the book.
I will be waiting for the next in the series.

This was an absolutely awesome book from start to finish, the first half of the book had me laughing out so hard, a shame it ended of sorts! Absolutely love the detail and slow building descriptions here used. Everything is well detailed, but not overly padded which I feel is a hard balance to properly achieve. The characters are amazing and and well written. There is a little bit of romance towards the end and "true love", I will confess not a big fan of a character sort of getting locked down that way in the very first book in what is to be a series, but shall see how it goes.
Again, MgM uses a lot of weird and wonderful, and novel, ways to adapt magic, and all things considered magical myth. I especially love that ‘Gosh-darned Cat’, and the rather raunchy fae aunt.
The only thing I dislike about this brilliant story is...it ended on another high, and there’s no clue as to when the story continues
I think it'll appeal to fans of Tad Williams, Robin Hobb, Duncan Hamilton and many others.
