Yes, the serial number on my router was not recognized on the site, but was by a Chat rep. Opening a ticket for support was a nightmare. Apparently, I need to have a "Service Contract" for that. Click on "Yes" to get a service contract and you're taken to your profile. Endless, frustrating loop. In the end, I got a Chat person to open a ticket for me.
I got the sense that the person on chat was not happy, dealing with one frustrated customer with the same issue over and over and over all day long.
Once the ticket was opened.....wow! I had a WebEx meeting in 5 minutes and the support guy was great. But don't fool yourself, I got lucky. It took me two hours to file a single support ticket.
As for the router - it's pretty robust and you don't really need a license for the security. As for Cisco SSL VPN, I don't use it, but Mark.....I feel your pain.
If you're buying this router, carefully consider what your network needs are. I found that this thing is mostly overkill for my small home network, but I did require something that had Dual WAN with fail-over.

The VPN service with iPhone/android using Cisco Anyconnect is free (the PC version is not).

After fairly routine setup I noted dramatic improvement in my internet speed. The two WANs I have are now working with default (fail over mode) and I have not modified this setting either.
I will, in the coming weeks utilize some other features.
So far, very satisfied.
