Alexander Small is a YA fantasy author from Scotland.

One day, while stuck in his home during the bleak Scottish winter lockdown, he looked at a painting on his wall--a peaceful country scene filled with trees and warm sunshine--and thought how nice it would be to just walk inside it and escape. The idea of the Painter's Apprentice took hold and grew from there.

Alexander is an avid reader and student of literature. He graduated with MA and MLitt degrees from the universities of Dundee and St Andrews in Scotland. He loves travel, swimming, and writing stories that give people pleasure.

After almost twenty years of working all over the world, Alexander now lives in rural Scotland, close to Falkland Palace and its surrounding forest.

This is the story of Dante De Luca, the famed, elusive painter who gave Jack a chance in the Painter's Apprentice. See how he got his start in the wonderful prequel by Alexander Small. Alexander's writing is vibrant and descriptive making you feel like you can hear, see, taste and smell everything the characters do. His characters are full of depth, entertaining and an absolute joy to read.

I loved Dante in book 1, and it was so interesting to see him in his younger days! This is an endearing little addition to The Painter's Apprentice series. It's an easy read, zoomed through it after lunch. Overall, a lovely palate cleanser from the stuff I've been reading lately.
This is a true YA series, and I love that. So many YA series are just adult fantasy, and this was true to its market. Highly recommend.
