and is left to fight the good fight any way he can in a world torn ...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 May 2018Verified Purchase
Jonathan Maberry's Joe Ledger meets up with some of the surviving characters of the "Dark of Night" trilogy in this one, this being the third book. He survived the Zombie Apocalypse, of course, and is left to fight the good fight any way he can in a world torn down by walking corpses where the few left alive are discovering the living are a greater threat than the dead. Officer Desdemona Fox is still in the bus she escaped from town in, with survivors aboard, but there's no such thing as safety in this world. She's walked through Hell to get her people this far while wading knee-deep in blood-and she'll keep going for as long as it takes. But the Zombies might be about to take the choice out of her hands. She was there at the start, she may just be there at the end... And Rachel Elle, a LARP who knows her way around blades fighting the Zombies, shows up scouting for survivors while taking down any "Orcs" she comes across. When the three cross paths, it's discovered that they have a common interest-dealing with the humans who see other survivors as property, at best. Fifty-year-old Joe Ledger may creak a bit, but he hasn't lost a step and isn't having this. Dez has completely any lost patience and sympathy for anyone after her and hers. Rachel just doesn't like scumbags. Loved this, but I've never read the "Rot and Ruin" series so got a bit confused. Still, in the Zombie Apocalypse, there will always be one truth: the Zombies are never the scariest thing you'll meet...

Great story but poor editing

I've read all th Joe Ledger books and love them. This was great to see an older Ledger still alive in th apocalypse that he has so often averted in his stand alone novels. Not sure if it's cannon but sort of spoils any new Ledger stuff as we know he's alive in the Dez books. Hey ho. Only 3 Stars for. 5 star tale due to some shocking editing in th later parts of the Maberry section. You can tell when it becomes the other writer. Didn't read the second tale so can't comment.

Where was the editor!?!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 June 2017Verified Purchase
Great book, great story as always but ruined by the editing....the worst I have ever seen, spelling mistakes and serious grammatical problems on every page made it very hard to read. Genders and tenses changed half way through sentences and incorrect words were littered in the text, changing the meaning and flow of the story. Shame.
