A true Australian legend, a warrior, a mate and a generally good bloke. Well and truly deserved the VC, and many other medals besides, for his selfless acts of bravery, he is the epitome of the Australian Soldier. A great read, well worth learning about this essential part of military history.

Michael Madden has written an absorbing account of 'Dasher' Wheatleys life and death. It was sad to read about how several heroic acts by Dasher were not rewarded with a bravery medal but this is just a reflection of the nonsensical Australian 'awards' system at the time. Dasher was a true larrikin, a superb fighter and above all else the epitome of what it means to be a true mate a quality which was to cut his life short.
This book is a great read and highly recommended
