Am on the 6th book and this is my favourite by far. Yassen is my absolute favourite character and it is fast paced and has taken it to a whole new level of coolness! Felt like Alex was becoming a bit invulnerable and it was nice for him to suffer getting dumped and also his gadgets are actually cool this time what with the bike. Maybe I sound cold-hearted but one of my friends who is also a book nerd actually laughs when people die and suffer. Have tried to explain that your meant to sympathise with the character but does not understand. Have suggested going to see a psychiatrist.
Excellent book in which Alex gets caught up in yet another drama. His friend Sabina is with him in much of this book where he is holidaying with her and her parents in the South of France. The holiday cottage is blown up by a bomb and Sabina's father is inside.... Yassen, the Russian assassin is on the scene. Alex suspects him and sneaks into his yacht. Unfortunately Alex gets caught and the book really takes off. Luckily, Mr Smithers is on hand to provide a gadget or two which ultimately prevents Alex ending up in the same way as Yassen....

review by James age 10: Even Alex Rider takes a holiday sometimes, but his break is soon interrupted by a dangerous adventure. This book is so exciting. I was gripped to it for hours. Every twist comes when you do not expect it. I felt like I was there with Alex, feeling the pain that Alex was feeling. This time there were more questions than answers.
4.0 out of 5 starsA worthy title in the Alex Rider series

This is the fourth book in the Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz, after Storm Breaker, Point Blanc and Skeleton Key.
I have read all the previous three books and thoroughly enjoyed them. They are implausible, ridiculous and hugely exciting to read. They really are the reinvention of James Bond for the modern teenager, with all the boring bits taken out.
The action, as in all the books, is fast and furious and there is never a dull moment, which is good for children with short attention spans and an endless need for car chases and fight scenes.
In this book, Alex comes up against a scary mad man as an adversary, and bumps into his old enemy Yassen Gregorivich, whose mysterious behaviour throws Alex into a deeper mystery than the one he started to solve initially.
There are a few wonderful plot twists in this story which make you desperate to read on. I am looking forward to reading book Five
One of my favourite authors, enjoy all his books, adult and YA. The Alex Rider series are fun books, well written, inventive plots and good characters. Well worth a read.
