Good stable connection for gaming

It's the first time that I have purchased and used a portable wifi adaptor and I didn't want to spend $100 or more. After a bit of research and reading some online reviews, I came accross this one which was rated 3rd or 4th best wifi adaptor. I decided to give it try and the result was quite impressive.

My PC is located in the main bedroom and the NBN modem is located in the second bedroom. We are using NBN50. Although the signal has to go through 2 main walls and sometimes with bedroom doors closed as well, it is very stable with minimal lag when I was playing online games and streaming FHD videos. It is much better than the tp-Link my PC builder provided at the purchase of my PC.
I am pretty impressed by this adaptor and I do recommend it to anyone who wants decent wifi connection and don't have money to burn.

No matter what I tried, I struggled to connect to the internet with this adapter and when it did connect it would constantly drop out. Instead I had to make do with tethering to get a reliable connection.
I would strongly recommend against buying this product.

Bought this to add wifi to a old Raspberry Pi 2 I had lying about the house and it worked flawlessly with no problems at all so thought I would try it out on a Pi 3 and it was equally as good and just out of interest sake tried it on my Windows 7 based desktop machine and again it was plug and play without the need for drivers or any nonsense and I was able to use Windows network controller interface to control and use the adapter.

Speeds were good and I could see no difference between wired and wireless using this adapter for normal browsing. Granted I didn't bother doing a load of speed tests as ultimately it serves one purpose for me and that's providing wireless for the old Rasperberry Pi 2 that I use for a long running home automation job hidden up in my roof space.

My house was built in the 1950s out of solid concrete and my walls are at least half a foot thick as are my ceilings and floors.... it could survive a nuclear blast but as a result it can sometimes be like living inside a Faraday cage (meaning wifi and phone signals can get blocked) but this little device has done a superb job at getting through two floors of solid concrete and through a handful of walls to go from the roof space down to behind the sofa were the router is hidden which is pretty impressive given it's tiny size.

Excellent adapter would happily buy again if need be.

I ordered this product as the place I just moved into doesn't come wired with ethernet. We opted for a 350mb fibre connection and wanted to utilize it as much as possible, so I ordered this 300mb wifi adapter after reading its spec sheet and good reviews. However, upon testing, it has completely failed to reach anything resembling a decent speed, even under optimal conditions, compared to the built-in wifi adapter on my motherboard.

I tested it in both Front and rear USB ports, with and without the 'hardwire usb cable', in both USB2 and USB3 ports, and on several different devices (PC and Laptop). In all cases, the adapter never exceeded 70mb in speed, despite reporting a good connection strength. I tested at various distances, and the connection quality dropoff was concerning with even just 1 wall in the way, compared to being right next to the router.

With my review there are 2 screenshots. Both were taken on my laptop, roughly 3 meters away from the router with a direct line of sight between them, on the same internet connection. As you can see, one of the speed tests only achieved 61mb download speed and 17.30mb upload; this is the adapter. The other shows good speeds of 313mb and 34mb download and upload respectively; this is my built-in laptop wifi, tested under identical conditions.

Needless to say, I'm extremely disappointed by this product and couldn't in good faith recommend it to /anybody/; if the low speeds don't bother you, buy a cheaper adapter as this one won't do you any better.

I have one of these for my P.C. and it works like an absolute dream! Great Wi-fi signal; I get my full band width from the router and I have never had an issue with it. A great price too for something that does exactly what it says!
I have another one for my Mac Air for the simple reason that my Mac Air just didn't like connecting to my router at all, even though my iPhone and Mac Book, game consoles, and TV all do.
Installing it on the Air was easy with the downloaded driver and the install went perfectly. the thing is that every now and then the Mac Air will disconnect from it. This, in my view, is NOT an issue with the Edimax but a weird Apple OS glitch.

Wifi dongle

I bought this to add wireless functionality to an old pc I am repurposing. It was quite easy to set up and seems to work very well.
I found the supplied mini cd which contains the drivers a bit useless so i downloaded the drivers from their website and got it onto the pc via a USB stick. I had a few driver installation issues until i copied the install files onto the pc from the usb stick before installing. After this it worked smoothly without issue.
Very easy and cheap way to get access to wireless internet via a device that can't currently can't do so. Highly recommended.

A nice little wireless dongle. If your PC or laptop does not have a working wireless card, this will give you a good basic connection to the router.

As an engineer, I find some people have a PC upstairs and (where there has been a problem with the internet) the router is downstairs. installing one of these will make your PC wireless.

the dongle itself is very small and only sticks out of the USB port by a few mm, which is handy if you need to put it in a laptop that will be moved around. Not too many years ago these were about 3-4 inches long and were a considerable pain.

Although it is possible to replace a wireless card in a laptop - this is a cheap and quick alternative that requires no real techy know how. Simply insert the CD that is supplied in the computer, install the software then plug the dongle into the USB port.
