I should start this review by saying that I did not purchase this product for outdoor use. Since I am using it indoors (instead of watching on a bare white painted wall) some of my observations may not apply to its intended use. While the title suggests that it is for either indoors or out, the majority of other information on the product suggests it's intended use is outdoors.
Having said that, One thing that is significant (and not entirely clear in the sales material) is that this product does have MANY grommets around the exterior. There are 17 grommets along each of the top and bottom and 11 grommets down each side (corner grommets were counted as being on top and bottom). This means that there are plenty of support points for ensuring the squareness of the screen while hanging. The black "rope" provided is sufficient to hold the screen. There were 4 black elastic (like bungee cord) ropes and 1 black poly rope. I don't know the lengths as I left them bundled (I won't need them for my current installation, but will keep them in case I decide to put the screen outside later). The storage bag is reasonable for its purpose. It's a good size and strong enough. The included paperwork is basically useless, but it does include warranty information and some basic instructions. The useful information can be summed up as let the screen hang at room temperature for a couple of days to remove wrinkles and in the case of stubborn wrinkles use a blow dryer set to warm (not hot) to soften the BACK of the material and let it hang (see note about this farther down). The screen came packaged with paper inserted between the folds. I assume this is to prevent the textured screen from wearing down during shipping and have saved the paper for when I need to move and/or store it in future.
The screen arrives folded and so when first opened has a LOT of wrinkles and creases. There is also a very distinct smell of vinyl. This is not a minor issue. It would probably be fine outdoors, but if you don't air this out before hanging it indoors, the smell will be inescapeable (although it does dissipate).
Now, while there are lots of grommets, they have been placed manually. This means that there is not a grommet every "x" inches and more importantly each grommet is not necessarily the same distance from the edge of the material as the others. What this means is that you cannot easily determine the placement of supports if you want to hang the screen "perfectly" straight. You will need to anchor one corner grommet and work your way across. If you're planning to use the ropes or use this as a "portable" screen, then this point is much less significant (and to be fair, that seems to be the intended purpose of this product).
Now, of course, the screen is huge (for inside a house or apartment). It virtually covers the entire wall I use it on. At 'roughly' 10 feet by 7 feet you'll need a fair sized place to hang it to remove the wrinkles (remember it is recommended to hang it indoors to remove wrinkles). I hung it indoors (for almost a month now) at room temperature. There are just as many wrinles as the day I first hung it. I have not tried a blow dryer, but don't count on the wrinkles simply "hanging" out. You will need to actively remove them, or stretch the screen (I am not stretching the material at all, I'm simply hanging it). It is 4:3 not 16:9 like most modern video content but it allows me to watch both as my projector cannot fill the screen completely in the room I have it in (but could easily do so outdoors).
Because the surface is so "bright", ambient light seems to wash the image out more easily than just the painted wall. If you can use it in a darkened area you will appreciate it more. I find that simply turning off the room lights is generally sufficient for my tastes. The picture quality isn't a whole lot better than the old blank wall but there is a barely noticeable improvement in contrast and white balance. It is a little better for darker scenes than the wall, but lighter scenes show every defect in the screen (wrinkles). I haven't owned a "better" screen to compare it to and so am only saying it's better than nothing at all. Honestly, if I were only using it for bright projections, I would prefer the perfect flat of the wall.
The overflow light produced when projecting a 16:9 image onto the screen with a 4:3 projector is noticeable and brighter than most people would probably like, so if you have a 16:9 projector, you will be much better served by getting the proper screen ratio to match your projector. Likewise the black borders which would normally frame the picture don't in my installation. I can say that at the top (where the border is the edge of the picture) it makes a nice clean edge and you don't really see the bit's of projection which may land on it unless you're actually looking for it.
Like many screens, I tend to think it is a bit overpriced for what it is. But being on the lower end of the price scale, it gives what I feel is a minor improvement over a painted white wall. Overall I'm pleased with the image quality produced and would recommend this screen for it's intended purpose (outdoor use) or if you happen to catch it on sale (like I did) and have a large enough wall to put it on I'd say 'go for it'. However, if you are at all able, consider ordering one that fits the size and ratio of the projection you want to display on it. You will enjoy it much more if your projected image fits the screen precisely. However, if you're expecting a huge improvement over a plain wall painted white, you'll probably be disappointed.
