5.0 out of 5 stars N72 version is big!
Reviewed in Australia on 23 August 2021

The N72 is much larger than I expected as I didn't take note of the dimensions very well. However in saying that I am very impressed with it. The magnet is SUPER powerful compared to other torches I have with a magnetic base. Two brightness levels is fine with me. Basic operation but effective. Tip - both buttonless and button top 18650s will work but go with the button top. Fits better and means no movement of the battery inside.

Full disclosure... if there was a group called Flashlights Anonymous I'd probably be forced to join. I like flashlights. I have a LOT of flashlights. Always have. Flashlights have come a long way from the chrome two D cell Rayovac flashlights and free four D sell Radio Shack flashlights I had as a kid. LED are awesome and this is a very nice LED flashlight. It's built like a tank and has a solid belt clip and strong magnet which, combined with the swivel head, makes for a very versatile tool. It's easy to clip it or stick it somewhere and then rotate the head and entire flashlight as needed to provide light wherever required. Seaking of light, this flashlight is BRIGHT. It's a really nice compromise between a spot and flood beam. I'm using the flashlight with an 18650 Li-Ion battery (I don't mess with alkaline batteries in lights any more) which fits perfectly using the included sleeve. I've added this to my easy-access kit in my Jeep and I'm sure it'll get plenty of use. The price was right too. I remember paying 3-4 times more for fairly chintzy Chinese LED flashlights not that many years ago. Things have really come a long way in a short time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Large light
Reviewed in the United States on 30 November 2020

Be warned--this flash light is large. Probably because it can take 3AAA as well, but it even needs a spacer (provided) for the 18650 to fit properly.

Pictures provided for size comparison between the N72 and N81, an 18650 and the spacer provided. There is also a hot spot in the middle of the N72 beam which I'm not a fan of.

While construction is spot on and what you'd expect from Nicron, I'm deciding to exchange for another N81. Just my preference. I like the even light distribution, size, and zoomability of the N81 better. This N72 has a magnet, can take AAA, has a swivel head, and a clip--but way over-sized for me.

Hope this helps your decision.

5.0 out of 5 stars Durable, bright and functional

I've had this for a couple of months now and I love it. When I first saw that this had a magnet I thought why would I need that? It turns out having it opens up a lot of opportunity to stick the flashlight on something and free up your hands to do other things. The magnet goes hand-in-hand with the adjustable aim, so you can position the flashlight, aim it on your subject and then go to work with your two free hands. The flashlight comes without batteries and without a built in charger. It supports both 3x AAA and the rechargeable 3.7 volt single battery. My experience is the AAA's don't last because this is a very powerful flashlight. I wish it had a built-in charger, but I was able to find an inexpensive charger for $2 that does the job. I've had other flashlights in the past that either the switch or the LEDs ultimately fail. So far and with light use, this flashlight is holding up just fine. Other's have noted in their reviews that the center of the beam has a dead spot. Other flashlights use some kind of refractor to eliminate this problem, but in the case of this light it's not a big deal, and I don't even notice - especially for the price and other features.
I also like the limited gimmicks. Push once it's on bright, next push is half bright, and third is off. Hold button to get the less than useful emergency flasher. It also doesn't focus beam, but why would I care - I had a beam focus flashlight and didn't see the point - this one has a less bright mode with a button push. Fixed focus is perfect for my needs.

UPDATE - I'm happy to report after almost a year of use supporting automotive and household repairs, the flashlight continues to work perfectly. It's been dropped multiple times on concrete, is a bit nicked, but all functions continue to work like new. Specifically; lamp, lens, button controls, swivel, magnet and cap/seal threads. I've continued to use my rechargeable battery and charger, both purchased separately, and with typical use that can involve minutes of continual use at a time, recharging monthly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid light thats plenty bright

I have used this light for about a month now and it has become my favorite. Its longer than other flashlights but that is because of one of its best features, the swivel light. This is the first light I have owned with the swivel and it actually comes in pretty handy especially when used with the strong magnet in the end of the light. The swivel allows you to point the beam at a more specific spot when the light is stuck to metal like under the hood of your car. The swivel mechanism is really solid, no slop at all. The clip is solid which is better than some of my other flashlights I have used that the clip gets weak pretty fast with use. Strangely enough one of the things I like a lot about this light is that the button programs does not make you go through a strobe mode to turn it off. I bet almost no one used that mode yet most of these type flashlights make it a mandatory mode. This light has strobe and SOS but you have to choose it by holding the button longer. I have switched to all 18650 battery items a long time ago and that is all I tested with this light. I noticed that if your battery is getting low on power you get a slight flash in the light every minute or so to let you know. Great flashlight, I would buy it again.

2.0 out of 5 stars 800 Lumen? Not really...
Reviewed in the United States on 3 February 2021

This light is built like a safe, and I like that. he swivel head and magnetic bottom are genius, so far. The magnet can be a double-edged sword, picking up things you don't want to. What highly disappoints me is the lumen claim. It isn't 800 lumen, not even close. My Streamlight Strion 275 lumen is much, much, (did I say MUCH?) brighter than this. That takes a lot of stars out of this review. It was delivered so quickly I think they knew I was going to order it. And it was packaged quite well. Instructions are straight forward with only a little bit of language error. But I'm pretty sure that if my cell phone light had a narrower diameter beam, it would be about as bright. Seriously. If you're looking for brightness, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a good, medium bright light, this is the one. Well, it could be. If I paid full price I'd send it back, but I didn't so the value works out OK for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Busted after a few weeks

Update: I feel like an idiot, but posting for others in a similar situation. The flashing was an indication the battery had gotten low! After a charge it’s working as expected.

I loved this light for a few weeks. Now the normal/high brightness setting flashes 3 times periodically. It’s like the control board inside is crossing up part of the SOS swing with the high light. It’s incredibly frustrating. The light is now useless for me. The manufacturer site is down. Too bad. Great quality feel. It just had to work.

3.0 out of 5 stars Meets expectations for the price.

1.) Flashlight is bright.
2.) I like the lighting options.
3.) Honestly, not quite built as sturdy as a ThruNite flashlight. But it does meet the price-point expectations.
4.) NO DETENT on the light swivel. Really? There should be some sort of detent. Not sure why the engineers didn't think of that. I'm guessing that over time, the swivel will loosen and the head won't stay put, but time will tell. -1 star.
5.) The spare gasket was loose inside of the box. I'm really not impressed with the way this flashlight was boxed when compared to other flashlights I have purchased. -1 star.
