I had just finished reading a wonderful series by a really GOOD author (who chooses to offer his excellent books on Kindle Unlimited)... and I thought I would give Ms Dams one last chance.
This book is just a waste of time and certainly not well thought-out.
The endless, ENDLESS speculation is exhausting and abysmally boring. The improbable plot is just annoying. And, it's difficult to find the protagonist likeable... she has endless hours with no actual obligations and yet she hasn't seen her godson - much less offered to relieve the overworked grandmother and mother of this toddler - for so long that she needs to see photos to know what the child looks like. No wonder she's so bored, and boring. And lazy, self-absorbed.
I may skip to the last chapter to see who murdered the first Evil Head-of-Department, but I have wasted enough of my time on this author.

I'm so glad the writer reduced The ongoing dialogue having Dorothy mont on and on about claustrophobia arachnophobia her knees and always being hungry and needing to eat 4to 5 meals a day gaining weight trying to diet and then eating crumpets and crackers and any other thing that she could get in her mouth and detailing every single meal that she has. She really got into the facts and wove the story very well without all those distractions which I had to page through. I like this book much better than the last two she's back to her old style of the first several books which is great.

This book is was a delight! I learned some fascinating things about different mediums of art, while thoroughly enjoying the cozy mystery that Alan and Dorothy solved. All the characters are so true to life, and the plots so well drawn, that I am pulled in from the beginning. I love, too, her final chapters where all the threads are resolved, and we get to see the happiness in the future. Off to read the next one in the series!

I am very, very fond of the Dorothy Martin series; she's living the life I wish I could have! Dorothy is an American living in England, a widow remarried to a retired Chief Constable. She's not a spring chicken any more, has knee replacements, appreciates a nap, and doesn't like dealing with roundabouts. And she's good at solving mysteries. In this book, she's investigating the death of an obnoxious artist in a university art college.

The Dorothy Martin books really are gentle mysteries. I found them first in my local library, and promptly went out and bought the whole series in hardback, because these are characters I really like, in a setting I really enjoy. I hope there are many, many more for Dorothy and her Alan.

You think, "I know where this is going", then, maybe not. Another fine mess! As usual Alan and Dorothy have lots of clues but no proof! Again, as usual, I learn more about the UK. I can envision the vistas, ancient buildings! And I learned a lot about Fine Art! Where will Dorothy and Allan take me next??

This novel takes place in a college of art in Sherebury. There are academic politics at play that leave much of the faculty and staff unhappy to disgruntled. Dorothy and Alan make a new friend of a young woman who is new to the faculty, Gilian, through their association with her, become part of a death investigation at the college. There are interesting characters and an intriguing story in this engaging novel.

It was slow, but fair, until the end. I'm not a fan of mysteries that rely on confession to reach the conclusion. And the plot line about budget shortfalls just sort of evaporated. The writing was good, but the story was about half baked.
