I came across this little beauty completely by accident while searching for some tuning tips for the time trial events, and I'm so glad I did. The box contains the converter, a couple of stickers, a neat keyring and a card with a qr code to take you to the website to update the firmware. I couldn't get the qr to read on my phone, and it's rather pointless anyway as you need to plug up to a pc to do the updates, so I googled the website on my pc and headed to the support pages.
Scroll down till you find your product (there are quite a few but they are easily identified with pics) and downloaded the firmware, a tournament file (no idea what this ones for) and the racing wheel update files. Each zip is downloaded in a few seconds. Navigate to it in your downloads, open the archive, click the .exe and you are prompted to plug the converter in, and hit update. Light turns from blue to purple on the converter while working, and the screen clearly tells you when it's all done and the light goes back to blue. Install all 3 updates and it's time to play.
I have to admit I had half expected it to be a bit of a let down, and had readied myself to be disappointed.
That was so not the case.
It works absolutely perfect. There's no delay or lag in the controls, the force feedback is spot on, all the controls do exactly what they should be doing and my lap times are getting better and better after just an hour of play with the wheel.
You will need a pc or access to one.
You will need Internet connection to update.
You will likely have to find the files yourself as the instructions are lacking.
It's absolutely brilliant and does what it says on the tin.
This converter does its job. But keep in mind this is simply not Plug and Play. You will need to download the proper firmware from their website to the converter in order to utilize its capability and use a PS3 controller. The download does not contain any malicious software. Simply plug your converter into your laptop's USB port and run the program. Takes less than a minute. Next, just plug it into your PS4, plug the PS3 USB cable into the converter to register it and unplug the cable. DONE.
I am not experiencing any lag or difficulties so I can positively say this was a wise purchase.
Finding the files to update the firmware was a bit daunting as the website is not super clear on what is needed for what. But once you find the correct one of downloads with out issue.
The firmware update process is a little clunky and I had to try it on several laptops before it actually completed (old windows version seemed to work best). And you are always in two minds if it has actually done what it is meant to... but... stick with it and try several times if needed (I had to).
Plenty of online guides to help.
Once the update is complete I would suggest turning the PS4 off, inserting dongle and then controller into the dongle before restarting. The controller should be recognised on the first screen and work in all menus even before loading the game.
I used this for GT Drive Force steering wheel on F1 2019 without issues and didn't even have to reconfigure buttons etc.
So, in summary, great product, does what you need it to but you may have to preserve for a bit. If you have a good enough setup to not warrant spending several hundred pounds on a new one for PS4 then we'll worth the £30 price tag.
It's currently 10/09/2020 and I haven't updated the firmware on it yet, just destroyed the box like an ape jammed it in the front of the old Sonybox and it's literally fine and is detected like a regular Ps4 stick now.
