I have read all of Emily Barr's books and can truly say that this is my favourite, hands down.
It's written with so much empathy and beautiful sensitivity for all characters, that it is completely believable and I wanted to lose myself in this book at every available opportunity.
It's a superb book for any age. I can see how it would be great reading for a teen due to the age of Arty, the main character, but it chimes with any age, not dwelling on any specific age-related theme. It's simply very good writing and a compelling story.

About the Author
The One Memory of Flora Banks published in 2017 was Emily Barr's first novel for young adults and was a global hit. Before that, she worked as a journalist in London but always hankered after a quiet room and a book to write. She went travelling for a year, which gave her an idea for a novel set in the world of backpackers in Asia. This became Backpack, an adult thriller which won the WH Smith New Talent Award, and she has since written eleven more adult novels published in the UK and around the world. She lives in Cornwall with her partner and their children.

I love Emily Barr and I've been waiting for ages for her to release a new one. This kind of book isn't really my thing but out of author loyalty I bought it. I must admit that I did not see that curveball coming, at all. What a great book even if it did take all book to find out.
