Faith Martin, such an excellent author, has started a new series. I’ve waited to finish the Hillary Green stories before buying any of the new series. My hope is that Faiths usual excellent writing is as good, better perhaps, than her other books.
Thanks Faith for many years of very enjoyable reading.
Au revoir not adieu perhaps.

Everything in Hillary and Steven's relationship seems to have been on her terms and what she wants. Poor bloke!
And if my history serves me correctly, Queen Victoria's naughty son; presumably the author is referring to Edward, Prince of Wales, was not Prince Regent. The last Prince Regent we had was when George, Prince of Wales (after his father's death George IV) was Regent for his father George III during his periods of mental illness.
The plot was interesting, but the interviews long winded. Suddenly there's a jump to Bristol station, the interview with Jas, and that's it, book finished. it's almost as though there are some chapters missing. The investigation into the missing girls was only partly solved, and we hear nothing more about Dale Medcalfe the big baddie who has been the thorn in the side of the police for years. The epilogue finds Hillary mooring her boat up at the bottom of Steven's garden and moving her belongings into his house. It was all very abrupt as though the author just wanted to finish writing the book asap.....
There are three strands to the novel - the romance between Hillary and Acting DCS Crayle, the situation regarding Jake Barnes and his missing step-sister, and finally (and most important) the case of Dale Medcalfe. The resolution of Hillary's romantic tangle was a fudge: a complete non-event. Jake Barnes's case was solved, but not quite finalised, while the main story (which had been coming to the boil over the preceding two novels) was, in my opinion, left hanging.
I find myself wondering whether Faith Martin had been pressed so hard to have the final book of this series revised and re-issued before Christmas that she had to miss out the last two chapters and tack on an 'And they all lived happily ever after' non-event of an ending.
I had been looking forward to Hillary Greene going out in a blaze of glory; all I got was a damp squib
The last Hilary Green book as advertised would leaving us assuming that our heroin would leave in an explosive burst of action or at least get to the alter, but no she walks toward her boat to start a new life and that’s it.
If authors can’t do better than this which in effect could be viewed as a betrayal of their loyal supporters, they should either find another occupation or face charges of fraud.
