5.0 out of 5 starsAAAs vs 18650: each has pros and cons; be aware *protected* 18650's are required $$$
Reviewed in Australia on 9 June 2022
I see people are wondering about using AAAs vs 18650s in these torches.

There's little discernible difference in brightness between using Alkaline AAAs vs NiMH AAAs vs a Lithium 18650 - though the three alkaline AAA's in series have a higher initial voltage than the NiMH AAA's or 18650: 4.8V vs 3.6 vs 4.2V, the torch circuitry appears to be (correctly) current limiting so the resulting LED power is the same. A single 18650 has up to twice the energy density of the AAA's, so will last a lot longer than the AAAs.
WARNING: the torch has NO low voltage protection, it will continue to operate and draw power from the battery down to about 2V (measured with a multimeter). That is far below the safe minimum state of discharge for a Lithium 18650. As such, if you use an 18650 it must be so-called protected from over-discharge.

If you power this torch from an unprotected 18650, you will destroy the battery when you inevitably over-discharge it.

So, pros and cons:
AAAs pros:
- batteries are cheap and readily available
- will keep operating right down to their last gasp, no concerns about damage through over-discharge (over-discharging NiMHs isn't great but not the end of the world)
- handle storage well

AAAs cons:
- environmental: depending on the amount of use, the lifetime cost of non-rechargeable disposable cells (Alkaline) may not be great - and relative to the lifetime cost of the torch itself, who knows...
- operating time is shorter than 18650's

Lithium 18650 pros:
- longer operating time

Lithium 18650 cons:
- requires protected 18650s, which are expensive

This is an impressively bright little torch, but is not built to last. Used it for literally one night, a total of 3 hours max (not consecutively), and the on/off button is already loose. Seems to go through batteries pretty quick as well. Keep it in a drawer or your car as an emergency tool, but this is not something for everyday use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great built quality, has a very good grip and very sturdy design.

I ordered these flashlights as they it seemed to be cheaper than the other options. when I received these I was simply amazed by the built quality and sturdy design that it offers. The buttons and controls are also very thoughtfully placed. it runs on 3xAAA batteries and the amount of light is simply great and covers up a very wide area. its zoom option works very well and is perfect for camping, hiking etc. the value for money that it provides is simply amazing. Very happy with the product and I would personally recommend the product.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lot of lumens for the price.

Great value for money. This thing puts out a lot of light for its price. Bright enough at night to illuminate bike paths etc but not too scarily bright that it might blind your child if they get hold of it. With eneloops, it ran for over 12 hours and still going. Granted that it was getting dimmer and dimmer however in survival mode, it’s enough light to get by.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value and a good piece of kit
Reviewed in Australia on 4 September 2020

Purchased this for the price and quantity in the one offer. Uses 3x AAA batteries, it's reliable and has a strong beam of light. Using these in the car for the driver, passenger sides, and boot for use just in emergencies. I would recommend using these as a quick go-to for around the house or car.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well constructed flashlights

The flashlights are tough and bright. They are heavy for their size (thus tough) . The design may not be as slick and pretty as the competitors. I especially like the insulating battery holder, that is inserted to reduce hot metal temperature in prolonged flashlight use. Other feature such as the zooming function adds to attractiveness of the flashlight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good torch!
Reviewed in Australia on 28 January 2020

I've only tried one of the pack of three - so far so good.

Very bright and the on/off button on the end is very responsive.

I have no regrets about this purchase. I'd buy it again.

Love these torches and great that they come in multipack of 3. Batteries not included but at this price not an issue. These have great light and very sturdy. PUrchased a second lot for gifts as I was so pleased with first purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheap but good quality product
Reviewed in Australia on 18 October 2020

Good lights, as bright as expected for an XM-L T6. Beam is clear, focus action is smooth whilst still being firm enough to hold your desired level of focus, and colour is a nice cool white that isn't overly blue. Was hoping the required spacer for the 18650 meant they would take a 22650 as well, sadly not the case, a 22650 will not fit, and they cannot be modded to make one fit.

Otherwise, they work as expected out of the box, no screwing around with the tail cap assembly trying to get them going like you can get with other cheap lights.

4 stars for sturdiness because this isn't a nitecore or led lenser level product, but I don't feel like it's going to fall part on me either.

4.0 out of 5 stars Handy - bang for the buck

This is good for the price. It's not as bright as I was hoping it to be - you get what you pay for. You can use 3 AAAs or 1 18650 (flat top). I'm already using a 18650 Battery 3000mah but it's still not as bright as I had hoped it would be.

I also saw this go on lightning deal after I bought it so if you want to buy this, maybe wait for it to go on lightning deal.
