OMG! What a cracker of a book.
Timothy Blake is a consultant for the FBI in Houston, Texas. Smart and observant, he is an expert at finding kidnapped victims. This time he is called in after the kidnapping of a fourteen year old boy, but everything is not as it seems, and Timothy is pulled into a confusing web that even he gets lost and confused in. And during it all Timothy is nursing a dark, dark secret...
Prepare yourselves for a rollercoaster ride like no other. Hangman is an amazing, original thriller, and Timothy Blake is like no other character you've ever met before. I could easily find myself addicted to this series. Highly recommended.

Anti-heroes are popular these days, but this was better than many. A well written thriller with a resolution I did not guess and cleverly-handled red herrings. I wondered at first if this anti-hero might have been better as a supernatural or super-powered character, but on balance I think his humanity is useful in making him more anti- than hero. Shades of Dexter throughout; this has apparently been optioned for TV and will probably make a fun show in a similar vein. I appreciated the use of 'white' and 'Caucasian' as adjective, since it helps to avoid 'othering' the reader (as opposed to texts that only identifying race or skin colour when a character is not white). Reese Thistle was an interesting character in her own right, even though she did fall for the protagonist.
Looking forward to the next outing of this Hangman.

I think I've found a new "favourite" writer and character. Jack Heath has created the most flawed but genius character, probably since Jeff Lindsay's Dexter. A character so easy to love, but so monstrous and disgusting at the same time.
Timothy Blake is a very disturbed individual. After losing his parents in a gruesome home invasion when he was still a baby, he grew up in a group home, which has left him damaged, but he is highly intuitive. His skills in solving abductions for the FBI is second to none. The crime aspect of this book is very well done, with loads of twists and tragic outcomes to keep any crime fan happy. Then, we add the weirdness factor. Timothy doesn't get paid for his work for the FBI - at least, not in the traditional way. His "reward", as he calls it, is a death-row inmate. I don't want to give anything else away, so I'll leave you to find out what he does with his rewards.
Jack Heath is definitely someone to watch. An Australian author, starting to make a name for himself. His style is full of dark humour, very well written, very well edited. Kudos to the publishers on that. Highly recommended for fans of crime fiction, comedy and horror alike.

Highly original if not a tad gruesome storyline.
Great lead character who you can't help liking even though his personal habbits are definitely on the grotesque side. Well worth the read.

This is well-plotted and well-written - no argument there. But it’s repulsively gruesome and unremittingly bleak. Human beings are often damaged, nasty, psychopathic, greedy, sure. And certainly, a grownup shouldn’t go round wearing only rose-coloured glasses, but, really, how much mental contamination do we need? Let’s remember that humans are also capable of great good. It doesn’t hurt a book to contain some of that as well. For balance, you know? The only likeable character in this novel is Agent Thistle. The rest are awful, including the cannibal narrator.

Timothy Blake is the ultimate anti-hero. It feels like the author tried his hardest to make Blake unloveable and unrelatable. He is an unkempt, unstable, manipulative loner who consults for the FBI. He is also a thief, a killer, and a cannibal who makes Dexter look saintly! If he can stop himself from eating victims, witnesses, and FBI agents, he might just find out who’s been kidnapping teenage boys. This was original and absolutely gripping with some great twists and turns, but felt contrived in places. I couldn’t warm to Blake and I couldn’t overlook his cannibalism, it was so in your face, but wanting to know what would happen kept me going. Not for people like me who are squeamish!

5/5 🌟 REVIEW
•
This had been on my wish list for a while so I decided to treat myself. I took my copy with me to Vegas in August and had planned to read on the flight but that didn’t happen (too many films and distractions). I started it as soon as I got home.
•
I absolutely LOVED this! I finished it in one sitting and wanted more immediately, it just wasn’t long enough! Timothy was a very different protagonist with an interesting lifestyle, I can’t say much as it will spoil it. The author really worked hard to give the reader a deep insight into the mind of an unusual and unique character. The relationship between Timothy and Thistle was heart warming to read and I found myself rooting for them to get together. She was such an enjoyable, strong and independent character.
•
Each chapter began with a different riddle, I love solving riddles and I found myself testing my husband when I reached a new chapter. (He was considerably better at solving them than I was).
•
I am a huge fan of gore, murder and the macabre but there was one part in this that did make me feel a little sick! Reading it made my stomach twist and turn but it was very well written and a great addition to the story.
•
I had an inkling about the ending but it was still a nice OMG moment. I have been recommending this to everyone I know and really hope there will be more from this author. This was a fast paced thriller with violence, humour and dark themes throughout. It definitely kept me on my toes!

wanting to support the advertisers that support two of my favorite podcasts, I bought "Hangman"

I heard about this book on the podcast, "True Crime Garage" (and later, "True Crime Brewery") and, wanting to support the advertisers that support two of my favorite podcasts, I bought "Hangman". And I'm glad I did. I really enjoy Mr. Heath's writing style, and the "voice" he gave Timothy, his main character.
You know that feeling, a third of the way through a book when you're worried that you've guessed the ending and the fun's been spoiled? Not gonna happen here. "Hangman" is a real nail-biter for sure :)
I hope there are sequels to "Hangman", and if there are, I'll definitely pick them up...and read them with a voracious appetite.

I didn’t know what to expect at all when I started this book. Other reviews, and even the synopsis were very vague. I realize now, that they were purposely vague. I don’t want to give anything away, but picture combining Sherlock Holmes, Dexter, and Hannibal Lecter, and you have our MC in a nutshell. I read this book in one sitting. Original, gruesome, sad...and I couldn’t put it down. I will be eagerly awaiting the next installment.

Great book but heavy going in spots. Very unusual lead character and not the usual, saccharine morality that we get so much in current fiction
