First time I’ve read any Wuxia and I enjoyed it. I came to this book not expecting any great literary turns. It’s essentially an academy story (ok, for those who don't get it - Harry Potter is an academy story) with all the expected tropes (character who doesn’t fit in, bullies, a group of friends, rat mentor [ahhh....Splinter!], clans/houses, teachers with dubious allegiances). There's even a slow-burn love interest and a missing mother.
Good fun read that doesn’t demand a lot of brain power. Liked the magic system and Hahan the best. Will definitely read on in the series.
