THE GUILD is a new series born from the Shadow Grove world. While some characters have been met in the existing MADISON KATE and HADES series, their cameos were not crucial to THE GUILD storyline.
◆◆◆
honeytrap
noun
a stratagem in which an attractive person entices another person into revealing information or doing something unwise.
Those who have reached a certain level within the mercenary guild, know that it’s not merely a job. It isn’t a hobby or a career or a fun pastime. It’s a calling. A fucking honor.
Being in the Guild is our life.... Or death.
Not everyone is created equal, and not everyone is truly cut out for the work we do. It’s not pretty, it's not glamorous, and it’s sure as shit not moral or good. The weight of the sins we carry can become too much for some, and they crack.
When they do, they become a threat.
No one quits the Guild. Not really. Either they cut a deal to make themselves useful in another capacity, or they get eliminated.
But who, you might ask, can kill a killer?
Who scares the boogeyman into running and hiding?
Men like me.
The Guild is my life. My love. My very existence.
Anyone who poses a threat to that, is eliminated. No questions, no hesitations, no mercy.
Until her.
◆◆◆
The Guild series is a dark romance and contains scenes that may be uncomfortable or disturbing to some readers. Please use your own discretion as to whether this is the right series for you. None of the main characters are the "good guys" and their moral code does differ greatly from your usual romance heroes. Please don't attempt to hold them to heroic standards, as they will fall short.
HONEY TRAP is book ONE of THREE in The Guild trilogy.

About the author

Tate James is a USA Today Bestselling Author of Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy and sometimes dabbles in Romantic Suspense. She was born and raised in the Land of the Long White Cloud (New Zealand) but now lives in Australia with her husband, babies and furbaby.
She is a lover of books, red wine, cats and coffee and is most definitely not a morning person. She is a bit too sarcastic and swears too much for polite society and definitely tells too many dirty jokes.

Honey Trap did not disappoint at all. Danny is 🔥🔥. She gives Hades a run for her money and I flipping love Hades 😂
The way she handles everything is so freaking good. It’s so good words fail me lol
I am secretly hoping for a RH with Leon, Kai & Carlos, but I’m sure in true Tate style we’ll still have questions when this all ends 😁 also, after her chat on the smutty & nutty podcast I’m terrified one of the guys is gonna die for real (hello Anarchy ending trauma) and I don’t know if I’m ready for that level of pain.
Kai & Leon are 🥵🥵 I can’t decide between these 2. I loved every moment with these guys with Danny. So amazing.
I need more of Carlos. I just have this feeling he’s going to be amazing & fire & an absolute sweetheart to Danny. As much a sweetheart as a Tate James man can be anyway 🤣
I’m loving the way this story is going and I cannot wait to see where Tate takes our fearless & slightly psycho MC’s!
I LOVED the multi POV’s in this book! I always loved the little snippets of the other guys we got in MK & Hades, but this book was made so much better for getting in the guys heads too!!
Absolutely mind blown that Tate can write such amazing books in the time she does and I am so freaking keen for Dead Drop in March. Cannot wait to see where this story goes 😍😍
As has become customary with Tate James books, Honey Trap ends on a cliff hanger! Please check the trigger warnings before reading this as she is dark & spicy 😍🥵
It’s not pretty, it’s not moral and it most certainly isn’t glamorous being high up in a mercenary guild.
Sometimes the pressure and the sins become too much and people crack, then they become a liability.
No one quits The Guild, you either become useful in another capacity or you’re eliminated.
Who can catch a killer?
Men like me!
The Guild is my life, anyone who poses a threat is eliminated with no questions asked, no hesitations and no mercy.
That was, until her.
This is a Dark Romance where no one is really a good guy, so if you’re only into heroes and I’ve guys then this book is definitely not for you
WTF Tate? (IYKYK)
I’m going to need to reread this one because I was that obsessed with finding out what happened next I sped through it and there are so many little crumbs throughout the book I know I’ve missed a couple.
I regret not waiting to read this one until the rest of the series was out though because Tate James is the Queen of the cliffhanger but knowing how good MK and Hades were I couldn’t resist.
I can’t wait to see where Tate takes us with the rest of this series, Really looking forward to March when Dead Drop comes out
There is a lot to the start of this series to really get into the characters and The Guild itself.
Like her other series, this one is addictive and has you both enthralled and full of questions.
I'm a total sucker for a Tate James story and I think this series is going to keep us guessing for a while to come.
Danny DeLuna is one of the best mercenaries The Guild has and she is a complete badass, but she's in trouble it seems someone wants her eliminated.
Leon Marx is a hacker genius who lives by The Guild's rules but he's more than that.
Malachi (Kai) Arden is The Guild's target and he has proven himself to be formidable and has previously taken out Guild members.
These characters are all strong and powerful, they don't trust easily, they are loyal and they are a force to be reckoned with on their own. I can only imagine when they come together as one the carnage they will cause to things right.

Leon is back in Shadow Grove doing The Guild's bidding as usual. He has allies there but as a Guild member, his job is always to keep a low profile. When he gets a call from Danny while she's on another job he's surprised she's called not only him but that she seems to be in trouble. Using all his skills he tracks Danny even knowing he should leave her alone. He's been slightly obsessed with her for a while and he thought he got over that a year ago but it seems one call from her pulls him back in.
Danny's job has not gone as it should have. It seems it was a setup to have her killed, which means someone in The Guild must know about it. She does not understand why they'd want her eliminated, she follows all their rules and is one of their best. After reaching out to Leon she goes into hiding to heal. One attack isn't it though and after a second attack, Leon starts to wonder what trouble Danny is in. The only people who would know her location are members of the Circle the highest in The Guild meaning she's in big trouble.
Wanting to keep an eye on his obsession he makes sure he is a part of her next job. He struggles to keep himself in check around her and worries what it will mean for them if he slips. With the mission over he tries again to put distance between them, but when he sees her next mission is basically designed as a suicide mission he can't stay away.
Malachi Arden is Danny's target, The Guild wants him destroyed. She thinks she's played it all just right and she can get exactly what they want. Malachi is not that easy though and he's sure Danny isn't who she says she is.
Under Kai's command, his men attempt to get the truth from Danny, and when that doesn't go as hoped he goes for a different tact not aware of what it could cost him. Danny is losing herself in Kai and isn't sure what is real and what isn't anymore. When she gets the chance she makes her getaway. Leon is there for her, despite the dead ends he hasn't stopped searching for her.
When Leon takes her to his sanctuary they struggle to hold back the desire for each other when it becomes too strong. When Leon receives word from The Guild it will turn everything on its head.
Happy Reading.

I actually feel speechless from this installment. Danny is one of the best in the guild but it's never as it seems. She is fierce, talented, sexy & sassy which she captures perfectly.

I absolutely devoured this in a buddy read with my girl @everybloghasitsdays and damn we were shocked & my jaw is firmly on the floor.

This story will blow your mind for sure, it takes your 𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗟 on one helleuva a journey. There is the perfect amount of steam and moments that will make you gasp.

I DID NOT FOR LOVE NOR MONEY spot that twist at the end and i am friggin SHOCKED, ANGRY, CONFUSED. *𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲* kind of emotion. My whole thought process of the book was destroyed but in the best possible way!!
Now the wait begins for book 2.. i know a different kind of review for me as I've kept every inch of this spoiler free!!

The standard of writing that Tate has is why I don’t read her synopsis anymore. If she writes it, I’ll read it. I was drawn in with her Madison Kate books and became a fully pledged Stan after 7th Circle. With every series that she brings out I find myself adding at least one more book boyfriend to my collection and this is no different. Leon isn’t the character I was expecting, he was better. The leading lady has me intrigued, I won’t name her because where’s the fun in that. This book has set you up in a world that you might have heard about in previous series but I wouldn’t say you have to read those first to read these. This doesn’t have the same spice level as the other books but in all honesty I hadn’t even noticed until I was writing this review, the storyline had my attention

I've found myself 2 new fav book boyfriends. Leon and Kai (fans self) have got to be in my top ten EVER! I loved how much psychological manipulation and game playing there was in this book. All characters are constantly fighting their honed criminal/mercenary instincts and their feelings, which Tate has written so well. It's so interesting to see who might break first....
This book involves mercenaries and criminals so, while I wouldn't say it was dark, there's no nice guys and gals in the this book. But that's one reason why I loved it!
Of course it ends on a Tate-esque cliffhanger but it just sets up what I'm sure will be a fantastic start to book 2.
Thanks Tate for another amazing series!

With any good action-packed RH, the first in a series is used to flesh out the characters, relationships, settings, and initial problems. For such in depth books, it's necessary to really get into the world. Tate James delivered and I was absolutely immersed in this one.
The character creation & development in this book specifically is top tier. My favourite of the Shadow Grove world thus far. I loved getting to know the characters and their quirks so they could make a nice cozy home in my heart. The internal monologue is amazing, especially Danny's manipulation and Leon's casually murderous thoughts. You really get into the characters' mindsets - however deceptive or genuine - and it helps that they're hilarious. The world is beyond exciting, especially the insight to the Guild and the mercenary life.
As usual with Tate James, expect a cliffhanger to haunt vou for a few weeks.
