To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Another gem from Dr Greger. All the science, studies and information you could ever need about nutrition and disease. This book along with Dr Joel Fuhrman, Esselstyn et al should be what is prescribed at the Doctors office. People need to take responsibility for their health armed with all the CORRECT information and give our NHS a much needed break.
Despite being an international best seller, (if it isn't already, I'm sure it will be soon!) the capacities are very much based on the strange American method. It would have been nice if the metric system could have been given as well. Come on Dr Greger, much of the info you refer to came from the UK so give us a bit of consideration please.
It's well researched, very thorough, and is completely based on peer reviewed papers. It has almost 5000 citations, which puts some perspective behind how well researched it is.
Unfortunately, the book's strength is also its greatest weakness, as it has very little structure, and doesn't make effort to put some narrative behind all the research. The book is mostly comprised of 1-2 page chapters on random topics which broadly follow the following structure: * Here is an observational study on the subject * BUT THIS DOES NOT MEAN ANYTHING BECAUSE CORRELATION != CAUSATION * Let's put it to the test * The test says you should eat only plants
The author also has a massive complex of loss aversion for researched topics. If the author has invested *any* time or money on a particular subject, then it's sure to make it into the book, regardless of how irrelevant it is or whether it works or not.
The book would have been a 5/5 if it was 1/3 as long, keeping only the most important topics while also putting some narrative behind the research.
Another amazing book from Michael Greger, M.D! I have bought this for my mother for Christmas but I couldn’t wait that long so read it myself first. The Book everyone should read at least once in their lives if they want to loose weight in a healthy way!
Excellent Dr. Greger, one more time you mission is a matter of save people's lives. Me and my family are so grateful and thankful for you books because we have improved our health and lives. I had high cholesterol levels, triglycerides, ED, overweight by 215 pounds, and starting diabetes like my father. I was always tired and I had a enormous pressure on my head as a result I have to depend on high levels of caffeine to keep working through coffee or energy drinks. Last August my doctor recommended to me cholesterol and insulin pills. I saw myself like my father taking 20 pills a day because he's many deceases. I said NO. It has to be another way. I started with keto or Paleo diet variations. I lost 5 pounds the first month but I had the same pressure on my head. I started to read about vegetarianism, vegan, and I initially found Dr. McDougall then a week after I found nutritionfacts.org and I stick to the daily dozen and I bought the cookbook. After two months of following the whole food plant based diet (three months since the Dr. Appointment) I lost 45 pounds, my cholesterol, blood sugar, triglycerides, and etc have go back to normal levels. My doctor is frickin out with my kidneys function. I feel more energetic and clear. Thank you very much for your help!!!!
I should know better than to buy a book near its release date because all the 5 star ratings are phony. After reading and enjoying How Not To Die, I looked forward to reading this book, but was sadly disappointed. This was the most boring, useless book around. 570 pages of technical, scientific junk no one wants to read about for hours on end. Most of it was filled with repetitive scientific studies where there was no real answer one way or another-most about what NOT to do and what DOESN’T work than what does. Do I really need to read about 82 different studies on fasting??? If you insist on buying the book anyway, save yourself hours of torture by skipping to page 558 and reading the last 12 pages-his “twenty-one tweaks”...it says the same thing that the 557 previous pages said. Very disappointed-waste of $22
I got this on audible and while I’m a physician and am eager for the information, and was looking forward to the outcome of all the research mining- the reading style is unfortunately so annoying I couldn’t stomach it and got the hardcover. Excellent information and well written but read it for yourself. The audible version has the reader sounding like he’s about to gag every few sentences, constant emphases and pauses - and then speeds up randomly and sporadically, so increasing the speed to get through the pauses makes it inaudible. Really happy about the content though. I felt this author did himself a huge disservice in not getting a professional reader for this very valuable material. I would have given 5 stars were it not for the audible version.
very repetitive content, does not get to the point in a timeley manner, and should just have been put straight into universities as a reference book, and even students may have the same view as me boring......
