This book is hard to put down. As I’m reading it, I’m thinking of a litany of friends and family that I want to share it with. Not the scientific medical tome that I was expecting. On the contrary, it is a compelling, well annotated narrative that explores and reveals the interconnectedness of our current political, social and environmental impact on our health and wellbeing – a whole systems look at the root cause of our broken society. “So: salmon are to rivers as hearts are to blood vessels. They both function as nutrient pumps in systems of circulation….The metaphor helps us to show that inflammation is systemic and that the systems are linked…The inflammation in your arteries and the inflammation of the planet are linked, and casual connections are becoming increasingly clear…”
