I have watched Jamie cooking the recipes on TV and “yum” so I bought the book. Hmm, it seems a bit more complicated in the book and he uses very “British” expressions which I have to look up like “knob of butter”. 🙄. Oh well, this should be the worst thing in my life. Anyway, yet to cook from it but I’m sure it will be a success. Eat & be happy. 🥰

I have found that a lot of the recipes in this book are quite time consuming, which means I won't try again. I have also been a little disappointed with the results as well. I'll just have to keep trying and seeing if there is one I like.

Following on from the very successful Jamies’ 5 ingredients (every relative’s home I visited in the UK had a copy!) he brings us another classic!
This one is no small cookbook with over 400 pages it has wealth of Italian recipes and has a foodie travel log feel to it.
That said it is very much in Jamies’ style with clear to follow recipes, ingredients and nutritional recipes on the left and beautiful pictures of the finished dishes to the right.
Would especially recommend to any vegetarians and pasta makers out there!

Expensive ingredients for generic-tasting food
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 October 2018Verified Purchase
Really disappointed in this book. I’ve tried about 6 of the recipes (the ones that don’t involve hard-to-find ingredients, which is most of them) and the results are distinctly ‘bleh’. The general comment for them seems to be ‘it’s ok but I wouldn’t rush to make it again’.
I’m a huge fan of Meals In 30 Mins and some of those recipes are now household staples - they’re really tasty and quite inventive, particularly given that they mostly involve everyday ingredients (Cypriot Chicken is outstanding). But these Italian recipes are just the opposite - they mostly seem to have at least one weird, expensive ingredient but the end result tastes very generic (the Stracotto, for example, tastes like bog-standard beef stew and the Chicken Bastardo is just ordinary chicken - the end result doesn’t justify the effort).
I’ll try a few more I guess but I’m not hopeful.

I really liked this release of Jamie's.
It's full of vintage authentic Italian recipes from the OG nonnas of Italy with the addition of Jamie's own spin on the dishes.
It's simple, It's tasty & It's Italy! Enjoy it!
Ignore all of the negative JO sugar deprived, turkey twizzler missing, haters.
They must not know real Italian foods.

Hidden Italy
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 October 2018Verified Purchase
This book and the accompanying TV show serve to preserve the vanishing art of Italian cook as seen over the last 100 years. With some truly inspiring recipes from Nonnas (grandmothers) that without this book would have taken them to the grave with them. If your looking for a taste of history with a dash of the Jamie originals then this is the book for you!!

Beautiful book, excellent recipes.

Beautiful book in tandem with the recent TV Series......Jamie working alongside Genarro Contaldo, travelling all Italy, seeking the Nonna's, the Grandma's of Italy, their traditional recipes. Jamie loved his own Gran, calling her "Tiger" seen sometimes with him on his early career TV programmes. Jamie is a natural with the Nonna's, respect and gaining new knowledge. Gennaro, Jamie's mentor all through his rising career, and good friends with Antonio Carluccio. Jamie's cooking is realistic, down to earth, and family orientated, fun, and friends, too.

Not jamies best effort

Little bit disapointed with the book if im honest, you need a good varied pallet to even challenge some of these recipies and get them right. Ive give it a 4* as he has nailed it though on the regional variatiions and traditional old recipies
