I am already aware that Juli isn't die-hard paleo and incorporating the occasional bit of cheese (or whatever) is fine by me. However, I did expect these recipes to be a bit more nutritious- they seem to me to be expensive hipster versions of fairly mainstream dishes/cakes, which have not necessarily been made healthier. For example, just because you buy tapioca flour to use instead of brown wholemeal, it doesn't lower the overall starch effect, it just makes a recipe very expensive and gluten free. Which is great if you have the money and are gluten intolerant, but if you're not, I would question whether the health benefits are really worth the cost. Also, the majority of recipes in this book (even the savoury ones!) use sugar. No, not table sugar, but lashings of maple syrup or coconut nectar. Sugar is sugar, however it is packaged, and always bad for you. It would be excusable if she had a treats section or something with maybe 5 cake recipes in it, but there are a disproportionate number of cookies, cakes, muffins and pies in this book.
So, to summarise: I am by no means Paleo-perfect, and only try to maintain the principle of keeping grains to a minimum and replacing carbs with vegetables and fat. I wasn't expecting a Paleo-perfect book. But I was expecting a cookbook full of mainly savoury paleo-based healthy recipes to inspire me, and felt this was a little too far removed from that. I was so disappointed that I returned the book and have reverted to picking and choosing from the savoury recipes on her blog, which is excellent. Sorry Juli!

Juli is not only super smart and some sort of culinary divine being, she's also REALLY funny, and I hereby declare my undying devotion to her for just saying what many of us, well, definitely me, already think: life is too short for black and bitter coffee! If you've seen her blog you already know she's awesome. If you're paleo, and even if you're not, to be honest, you will LOVE this book and everything in it because it will save you from ever having to eat another boring meal ever again.
I absoluteluy suck at cooking. I hate it, in fact. And I get massively cheesed off at people who make me buy organic strawberry pink grapes harvested by virgin goldfish on the 6th Tuesday of the full moon at midnight, only to tell me I only need half of one of these and the rest then goes in the bin because you never ever use it again. Juli's recipes make me excited about cooking (I know, I'm as shocked as you) and the stuff you need gets used a lot so you won't have a kitchen counter littered with one off purchases.
Just get the book. You won't be disappointed.

A wonderful collection of recipes whether you are a paleo fan or not the recipes are good and work
