It’s my new fad to learn about Japanese cooking, the product guide is very helpful as some of the ingredients I’ve never heard of. The recipes work and are yummy. I am alway a photo fan so would like more photos..

4.0 out of 5 stars Great recipes, book build quality is wanting

Great recipe book with very authentic flavours and would give 5 stars on that’s basis if it weren’t for a few shortcomings;

1. For the price, would have expected a better quality print. Pages are thin prone to tearing easily. Spine of the book is weak and I can see it failing. Could have spent more on the quality.

2. Book makes reference to the blog for further information - the whole reason you purchase the book is so you don’t have to go online (as the recipes are essentially identical)

3. A touch more care on layout and content from the website could have been put into the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never thought it could be so simple

This book is very good. She explains the ingredients and has pictures so you can see what it looks like. The explanations are very clear. I am a third generation Japanese Canadian and am always looking for recipes like my mom and grandma make. My mom agrees that this book is awesome and the food is authentic tasting. Some cookbooks Canadian use the taste but not this one. Going to purchase 5 more for presents to my yonder or fourth generation nieces and nephews for Christmas!

Just one cookbook is a great book for cooking japanese food! It's easy to understand and since there are youtube vids for each recipe you can always look everything up. I can really recommend it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not was I was expecting

The quality of some images is quite poor, most of the recipes have only a few ingredients, this book is really meant to be listing a few simple Japanese recipes, unlike what I was expecting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great cookbook for everyday Japanese cooking.

I think this cookbook is laid out really well. Easy to follow and attractive pages. I appreciate the grocery list and kitchen supplies section. I think the recipes are delicious and authentic. Only thing that could make it better is a spiral bound option so it can lay flat on the table.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Japanese "Comfort Food" Cookbook Ever
Reviewed in the United States on 4 February 2022

My connection to Japan goes back over 50 years, including living there for over ten years. These are the foods that my wife and mother-in-law always made, and that I came to love. This cookbook by Namiko Hirasawa Chen has all of the classic Japanese comfort foods. Best of all, Namiko San has written it for an American (and Western) audience, with easy to follow instructions, measurements in both the American and metric systems, and ingredients that are easy to get in American grocery stores. It's also a very "Japanese-style" cookbook, because each recipe has a beautiful full-page color photo of what the food is supposed to look like when it's done.

Really wonderful recipes. I had no real history with Japanese cooking, and, with this book, I was able to cook delicious meals of all sorts and styles almost always on the first try (if not, all were nailed by the second). I highly recommend this book regardless of skill level
