4.0 out of 5 stars Less scratch prone, and less luxurious feeling than previous gen leather case
By Jorgen S on 28 October 2021
I just received the 11th Gen black leather case early, ordered with the Signature edition Kindle that I'm still waiting for, and am sharing my early impressions as they may benefit others.

Compared to the old, the 10th generation Kindle leather cover is much harder - appearing and feeling almost plastic like. The 10th generation cover is by comparison completely soft to touch on the outside. Inside they're much the same, a smooth micro fibre surface - although a different colour.

Whilst I much prefer the feeling of the outside texture of the old, it is highly vulnerable to being scratched - so I can see the new lasting far longer "as new". After my daughter decided to draw on the 10th gen case with a ballpoint pen however I used real leather cleaner and honey leather conditioner to restore it, and it came out really nice - and even softer than when new. Those scratches could be described as character, and I feel I may miss it in the 11th gen case - but I'm certain a lot of people won't.

As the 11th gen felt quite hard to the touch, especially directly compared to the old, I applied a bit of conditioner to the new one. It may have helped a bit with the dryness, but it wasn't by much. Time will tell if it softens up with use.

Overall it feels less luxurious, but more practical - it would stand up to water splashes far better, and I'll absolutely enjoy not having to worry about scratching it as much.

(I've included size comparison shots of the old vs new case as I'm sure the difference will be of interest especially for those looking forward to a larger unit; I'm really looking forward to the slightly larger 11th gen. I'll update my impressions when it arrives.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't pay extra for fake leather
By Wade on 1 November 2021
Excellent, very happy with the purchase. I went with the fabric case because I saw the "leather" covers in store and I would bet money there is no real leather in them at all, they felt like hard plastic that had been pressed to create marks that look like leather. So naturally I went with the fabric case as it's cheaper and does the same thing.

Feels good in the hand, feels strong and of good quality and easy to hold when open and folded back on the Kindle.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointingly Cheap
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 October 2021
When Amazon announced the new Kindle Paperwhite, having had my previous model for around eight years, I decided to upgrade. As with my last purchase, I bought the official Amazon leather case.

The Kindle is a premium device and my previous leather case added to that premium feel. The new case has clearly been made with far less care. The shell on my old version was a rubber-coated plastic. On the new case, the shell is just plastic. This thin plastic does not feel anywhere near as nice to hold and feels as though it may crack or smash if dropped.

On my old case, the leather was stitched and had a slightly tactile spriginess. On the new case, the leather is glued onto more plastic. Again, it just feels rubbish.

The only minor improvement with the new case is the microfibre cloth on the inner cover. (Though in fairness, I never had any issues with the fabric cover on my previous version).

It disappoints me that Amazon's own leather case now seems to have declined in quality, to such a degree that a third-party case or sleeve is likely to be my prefered option. I will be returning this case after submitting this review.

2.0 out of 5 stars I really like the colour, but for the quality the price point is not justified
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 October 2021
I really like the colour of this cover, and appreciate the fact that the lining on the inside is the same wine red as the rest of the cover rather than black or grey, but I'm not impressed by this Kindle case at the price point.

The cover is leather-coated at the front, and has a plastic tray that acts as a holder for the device at the back. The tray has cut outs running right the way along the top and bottom edges of the device. This means that the power button and charging port on the bottom edge of the device are always accessible – but the extent of the cut-outs leaves quite a lot of the device exposed. This doesn't offer great protection.

The leather is a thin layer of textured leather over the front of the case. It’s not the nicest feeling leather ever, kind of plasticky, but the texturing does help to make this anti-slip. The edges of the front cover are sealed with a sort of rubbery coating – and if this behaves like the seal on previous generations of Kindle cases I have owned, over time will start to peel off. The cover folds over easily for one-handed reading, if this is how you like to hold your device, but doesn’t feel floppy if you prefer to hold this opened outwards book-like. The front cover isn’t padded, but has a soft-textured microfibre lining. This generally seems a drop in quality versus the cases to accompany the previous generation of Paperwhite.

Auto wake works as it should.

Pros
- Good, secure fitting tray
- Nice colour
- Anti-slip texturing

Cons
- Price point
- The amount of the device left exposed by cut-outs in the holder tray
- Quality less good than previous generation cases

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, but expensive.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 November 2021
After having a basic kindle + fabric case for about two years, I decided to upgrade. The fabric case is great and significantly better value for money, but I just felt like getting something a bit different.

The cork case is light, and looks like it will keep the kindle safe from light bumps and scratches. However, it doesn't quite feel like cork and I imagine is treated with some sort of plastic coating to keep it from deteriorating too quickly. Additionally while the kindle sits in the case firmly, it does not quite snap into place like my old fabric one does, so I don't know that a hard drop wouldn't cause it to dislodge itself. You can see there is a slight gap between the kindle and the case.

Otherwise it looks really good, and I think the dark colour suits the black of the kindle. Hopefully it lasts as well as my fabric case, which despite some minor frayed edges is still working just fine.
