I was using one of my sata power cables from my power supply which has three sata power connectors attached to it so that I can connect up to three different drives. But because the sata power cable passes from one side to the other through the black piece that plugs into my drive, it doesn't leave a lot of space for the second sata power connector to go into the second drive. I was able to plug in both sata power cable connectors, but the bottom one is not as secure. I am using this with an HTPC that doesn't have any important files on it, I doubt I'd use it on a computer with files I didn't want to lose.
My review is for the plastic one pictured, Kingwin model HDM-226. I didn't check carefully
and assumed it is metal then realized my mistake when I received it.
I purchased a Crucial MX500 SSD at Amazon and got this adapter bracket at the same time.
It comes with 12 screws, 8 black screws for securing two SSD's to the adapter if you so
wish and 4 nickel plated screws for securing the adapter to the drive bay.
The adapter has five screw holes on each of two sides for fastening to the drive bay. On
one side I got two holes to align perfectly with the screw holes in the drive bay. On the
other side no two holes aligned with the holes in the drive bay but this is the side I was
forced to use so I had to drill an additional hole to make it work.
The problem was that in using the side where the holes aligned perfectly would have the SSD
positioned where the edge with the SATA and power connectors would be recessed one inch
away from the edge of the adapter making it practically impossible to attach the power cable
even if I used the upper slot of the adapter for the SSD.
The power cable from my power supply is the standard one with several connectors to hook up
DVD and hard drives.
So by drilling the extra hole for fastening the adapter, I have the SSD positioned with the
connector edge right at the edge of the other end of the adapter where it should be.
Zero stars for the adapter, one star for the package arriving within the specified time.
