Quality in Every Detail
Sometimes we give our pliers a really hard time. We try to destroy them to find out what makes them good and long-lasting. Because we don't want to leave anything to chance, we take a long, careful look.
The steel Knipex uses is precisely hardened with a maximum of 0.8% carbon and defined parts of chromium and vanadium, guaranteeing optimum cutting performance and service life — even though it requires special production and costs a bit more. But our high product demands require this.
Knipex also looks closely at the small details. The angles, the sharpness, the hardness, the toughness of the cutting edges. The precision and smooth movement of the joint. The handle design and the finish. We keep reviewing these subjects, we research, we test, and we improve our pliers.

I'll be honest I was somewhat let down right from the get go. They arrived in a blue box that looked pretty rough and stained from oil. This didn't affect my judgment at all as I was going to use the tool and didn't care what the packaging looked like, but when I opened the box I immediately felt a little gauge in the side of the pliers. This made me worry that I had paid a high price for unhardened soft metal pliers that you could get at Harbour Freight. I thought maybe the sides were soft but as long as the jaws and teeth were hard I'd be alright.
I ran a file over the teeth to check their hardness. The file didn't bite into the metal as deep as a cheap Chinese pair but it also didn't glide over them like it would with Knipex's cobra pliers. I have used them a bit and they are better than the other cheap brands you can buy but I still expected more from Knipex I wish they hardened these like their other pliers. 4 stars because they are better than what's out there but still not as good as the old USA made vise-grips. My search continues.

Knipex does not disappoint with these pliers. I considered the Irwin brand when purchasing these, but given the stellar performance I've received from my other Knipex tools, I purchased these instead. They work very well and although I have only used them a handful of times, I know they will last a very long time.
Knipex brand tools seem to be replacing many of the tools in my arsenal. They perform well and stand up to the test again and again. Every time a tool of mine fails me, whether it's through normal use, abuse, or expectations - I look for a better one. These days, when I go looking for tools to buy, Knipex is one of the first brands I check. They don't make every type of tool, but the tools they do make, they are top-notch construction and performance. I have yet to be dissatisfied with any of my Knipex tools in any way, shape, or form.
