Outward Hound Fun Feeder Slo Bowls
Slow Feeder Dog Food Bowls
Did you know that fast-eating dogs are more likely to experience bloat, regurgitation, and obesity? Canine bloat, aka GDV, happens when speedy eating causes excessive amounts of fluid, food, and air to fill the stomach, which can be very dangerous. Slow feeder dog bowls are designed to prevent these issues through the use of ridges and maze patterns, which slow eating pace up to 10 times! These bowls aid in digestion while engaging dogs during mealtime and reducing overeating behavior.
Safety & Care
These bowls are not a chew toy. If your Fun Feeder Slo Bowl becomes damaged, remove and replace. Do not microwave. Intended for pets only. Dishwasher safe on top rack on low heat setting.

As for the bowl it is a nice colour (we got the purple one) and it feels like its quite durable and of good quality. What would be handy for these bowls is to have the side measurements so we can see how high it is before purchasing.
We ended up purchasing a slow feeder bowl from Kmart that has worked really well.

The only major issue (first world problems and all that) is that they are a pain to clean. Time consuming by hand so I prefer to stick them in the dishwasher (but the larger of these bowls are so large that two of them in a dishwasher doesn't leave much room for anything else)... and so, I invested in the medium/mini size (since the large was so big that I could have fitted three of their meals in each bowl).
In theory, you're only going to lose the 'outer ring' (when compared to the large bowl) but I hadn't considered that the height is also reduced. When they first arrived, they reminded me of cat bowls (but don't take this literally, as cats would struggle I think due to the depth/shortness of tongue)... I was concerned but they seem to be working out okay (especially since I now have three dogs competing to finish their meal first).
These bowls will fit in a mug of kibble and a small topping of meat (absolutely no more so if you feed more than that, they won't work). They're far easier to clean (in a dishwasher certainly than the large... I couldn't have fitted 3 x of the large in the same cycle lol) but on reflection, if it wasn't for the cleaning aspect, I'd probably stick with the large as there's more room to spread the food around to challenge a greedy eater.
I have 3 dogs, one of whom eats particularly quickly. It takes her less than 15 seconds to eat 150g of dry food. I've tried all sorts of measures including silicone mats with raised bobbly bits (she's too clever for that - she just flips it over with her nose) and tennis balls in her bowl (she's too clever for that too - she just picks them out and drops them on the floor before inhaling her food). This bowl, however, has increased her eating time to over 20 minutes. 15 seconds to 20 minutes. That's quite a successful outcome.
Watching her, she's totally engrossed and in a little world of her own, trying to work out how to get to the food. She's eaten from it 4 times now and she still can't work out what she should do to make it slightly quicker for herself. After 20 minutes I push what's left round for her but hopefully she'll suss it out over the next few days and manage to get it all herself. The design will still mean that it takes her a long time though.
You need a bit of space all around the bowl as your dog will hopefully realise that it has to walk round and round in circles to push the food through the spiral channel. My other 2 dogs realised that during the second use of their bowls. They used to eat 125g within 30 seconds in a standard bowl. Now it takes then 12-14 minutes. I think that my Dobermann's frustrated that they're finished with their slow feeder bowl as she up at one point today and made a puffing noise, when the other two had finished. A bit of encouragement and she was back at it again though.
This bowl taxes them mentally and physically. They can't just stand there and gulp their food down. It takes effort to get to it. I only wish I'd known about this product sooner.
It's sturdy, it's fairly weighty for a hard plastic bowl, it doesn't slip on the floor and if it has my Dobermann perplexed then it's going to slow down any fast eater, even a very clever Border Collie, I'd say. I bought 3 and I can't praise the seller enough. The seller that I bought from (Super Deals) offered the best price in the UK. Their next day despatch and really fast courier delivery was free. I've now ordered another Outward Hound slow feed bowl (the flower design in grey this time) from the same seller as a present for a friend who has the same problem with her dog. Again, Super Deals offered best price in the UK and I'm confident that the bowl will keep her dog's bad eating habit under control too.
