To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
The first half of the game (cinematic wise) is just the most awful written game I have ever played. The second half (cinematic & game play) is amazing. First half they try to force u to feel things but the second half u will feel emotions just like the first game and the gameplay really picks up, SO INTENSE!. For this reason I believe this game should only be bought at a discount price.
Going to try and leave a spoiler free review here but be in mind of minor spoilers. Positives: the game play works really well. Puzzle solving, cambat mechanics, and crafting system is really nice and modelled on the previous game. The games atheistic is beautiful and cannot say enough how beautiful the setting of this game is. The story builds a good character development, and inrrodices new characters which I straight away had interest in. The decision on how to engage encounters is brilliantly made, and makes you feel part of the world and actually want some of the characters/ scenarios to do well. The weapon customisation is great and the story does pick up where the previous game left, and for the start, gives a very good direct narrative which is very engaging. Negatives: the story line gave me whiplash. So many times I thought the game was over but nope. Continue. 5,8,10 hours later you're still going. Sometimes this is good, but it can also kill the story line, and actually lead to me intensionally failing a mission a few times because I disagreed with the narrative. It just seems incoherent. The jump scares become predictable, and makes it frustrating while you try to prevent them by seeming them coming, but can't. The ending, in my opinion, was not satisfying, and i thought the game could have had a good conclusion 3 hours before the ending. There is a major point in the story which seems rushed and not thought through which did disrupt the story line but literally... Muffling vkices. I feel like this game could have been a good decision based game (and that's what the creators were aiming for), but in the end the player can't make decisions! but yet they try to make players feel guilty off the actions of the characters they are playing. Also the open world feel is good and is great at the start exploring with your companion, until you spend the majority of your time going through shops getting materials which puts a massive pause in the narrative, and feels like a chore rather than being part of game play. Conclusion: if you've got this far well done! In total I would buy this game, but not now at this price. It is a beautiful game, and is well worth a play through. The art style and theme is beautiful and it's a good follow on from the previous game. But it's not the "great" game I hoped for, and the narrative seems very disjointed. I personally will not be playing this again after my first play through unless some DLC comes out which massively changes my opinion. Hope this helps and of course all this is my opinion and I know others will disagree with me.
An incredible game with the best graphics I have seen on the PS4. When characters walk through the snow is simple brilliance. Attention to detail is sublime. The mixture of fast and slow gameplay is superbly done. The only issue: the way a couple of the main characters from the first game react to certain situations has been poorly executed by the writer, in my opinion. That’s why this does not get a 4 star from me, unlike the first game, which was perfect.
I will say this is the most emotionally involved in a video game's story I have been since Red Dead Redemption 2, the story's premise is a cliche and the character development isn't as good as the first one but the graphics and gameplay ESPECIALLY combat are a masterpiece in its own right, some very intense encounters. Without ruining any of the plot, there were a lot of questions left unanswered, but I can appreciate the new and different approaches they took. Overall an enjoyable solid 30 hours of gameplay.
Ok, so ignore all the 2 star reviews written on launch day. Probably not played the game. This is a great sequel and is well written and thought provoking. Its violence is visceral and the centre of this tale. Not the 10/10 nor the 1/10 game reviewers have given, but a solid 8. I avoided all spoilers before release and have been shocked, surprised and in tears during k6et moments. Try it.
Gameplay is awesome. If you liked the first one you’ll love this. It adds a little bit but not too much like lying down in grass, adds more to gameplay than it sounds.
Story on the other hand can’t compare to the first. It is all extremely high quality and some story telling done through boring walking around gameplay.. a small amount of this was good but otherwise boring because of disconnect with a certain character.
The game is pretty long, took me close to 30 hours while doing as much resource gathering and exploring as I could. Some parts I just wanted to fly through to get them over with.
Overall 1 star taken off because the story in my opinion didn’t stack up to what I thought it could have been. On a positive it does expand the universe of the last of us with opportunity for spin offs and sequels which I would love to see happen.
I don't understand why there is so many negative reviews but I honestly enjoyed every minute I spent playing this game. The story felt chaotic at first but later I understood why I had to play as two people. I knew the story of Ellie from Part I and I've learned the story of Abby just to find out that there is no good or bad. Everybody has their point of view and after finishing the game I like Abby more than Ellie. One of the downsides for me was that it felt like the creators tried too hard to include LGBT into the story and there was a bit too much violence in the end of the story.
I definitely recommend this game to anybody that doesn't have a heart disease as this is (really good) survival horror game after all.
I cannot understand how anyone could “1 star” this...but then again I don’t understand how anyone could “5 star” Death Stranding - ultimately games, like books and movies, are subjective. The gameplay is fantastic, some new weapons and crafting ideas, different upgrades etc. The graphics are brilliant and I can see some frustrations with the story, the end did feel a bit meh, but overall I loved it. I’d give it 4.5 stars as the story could have been a tad better at the end, however it drives home the “2 sides to every story” and don’t believe everything you’re told. If you loved the first, you’ll enjoy playing this for sure.
Fantastic game, loved the story, visually up there with the very best. Gameplay very satisfying, extremely violent so expect some truly bone crunching combat. The only criticism for me is it was sooooo long, too long and really dragged on towards the end. That said, I'd still highly recommend it.
Another very enjoyable game with most of the same gameplay and oppressive doom and frights. Can't be faulted and haters will always be expecting much more, or are just annoyed that they've finished it and now what ! I'd say buy with confidence and enjoy.
