I wanted direct-wire (aka ballast bypass) LED tubes so that I never had to worry about a ballast going bad in the future. The direct-plug (aka plug-n-play) LED tubes seems like a good idea, but they keep you married to an old unreliable piece of florescent tech: the ballast. LED tubes should last 50,000 hours, that's plenty of time for an already old ballast to go bad and they you've got spend new money on old tech (ballast) to keep your new tech (plug-n-play LED tubes) running. I did many trials on plug-n-play LED tubes without a ballast, they don't work well. So you can't just bypass later if you go with plug-n-play tubes.
I put these new lamps into some old fixtures in order to light an old storage shed. I really dislike anything over 4100k. These do seem to match in the advertised 3000-3500k, which to my eyes, makes it easier to find what I'm looking for.
Rewiring old fixtures is easy to do. The 'schematic' (if you can even call it that) is labeled on each lamp and the box includes more detailed instructions. The two pins on an end are connected together, so these work with shunted or non-shunted lamp holders. Live/hot/black to one end, neutral to the other.
They came packaged well. Very happy so far, and I hope they last a long time.
These are really good value for the money. They are very bright, bordering on harsh. To clear up some confusion, because the description certainly does not help, these are designed to work without ballasts. The description of the item says it works without ballasts then further down it says it will work with ballasts. This is not the case. These are for rewiring your fixture and using it without a ballast. It's quite easy to do if you have even a rudimentary understanding of electricity. Rudimentary is about as good as I would put my understanding and I am happy with the results. Here's hoping they last a while.
These led bulbs were well packaged and arrived in perfect condition. Re-wiring my lighting fixture to bypass the ballast only took about 10 minutes. Note that the bulbs have a correct and incorrect way for installing them, so make sure to look at the diagram on each tube and install hot to the correct side of your light fixture.
The light provided by the warm version of these bulbs is nice and they're good and bright. I hope the last for a long time - I'll update this review if anything should go wrong. But first impressions are very positive.
What great light! We used them under the kitchen cabinets to illuminate the counter tops. Loved them. We were expecting long life. Not quite 6 months after install three tubes suddenly failed when we turned the switch on. The failure mode was on-off flicker 3 or 4 times and then off permanently. Was this a bad manufacturing batch or a design flaw? Can’t say for sure, but how do you explain the simultaneous failure of three out of four tubes after such short in-service time. The fourth one is still working.
The bulbs that did work are nice and bright. The two that do not work will not light at all and I suspect that they probably have broken internal supplies. Based on other reviews, just beware that you may need to exchange if you get a bad set.
Not sure how to contact seller but I have a huge problem with the bulbs I just received. I put them into the fixture and they blew a fuse 2 times. One time the bulb lit up and burned out. What is the problem? I will return all for the lite bulb scientist to explore.
